The Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card and Ink Business Cash℠ Credit Card are two popular Chase business credit cards both falling in the "Ink" family. Both also carry a CardRatings Best Business Credit Card winner title, but which is the better card?

In short, both of these cards are solid choices. Deciding which card is the better option for you depends on your business’ spending habits as well as whether or not you can justify an annual fee.

New cardmember bonus

One of the first differentiators between the two cards is the new card member bonus. The Ink Business Cash℠ Credit Card earns $500 bonus cash back after you spend $3,000 on purchases in the first three months from account opening. The Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card comparatively earns 100,000 bonus points after you spend $15,000 on purchases in the first three months from account opening. Sure, the spending threshold is high, but the bonus earned by the Ink Preferred® is worth $1,250 toward travel when redeemed through Chase Ultimate Rewards®, which is considerably higher than the $500 earned by the Ink Business Cash℠.

A noteworthy difference between these two bonuses is the minimum spend that needs to be hit in order to get the bonus. If your business has expenses that would be able to hit the $3,000 threshold for the Ink Business Cash℠ card in three months but not the $15,000 necessary for the Ink Business Preferred® bonus, then be sure to take this into account as you are evaluating the two cards.

Rewards earning rates

The rewards earning rates for these two Chase Ink cards on daily spend categories is another key difference between them. The Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card earns three points per $1 on the first $150,000 spent on travel and select business categories including shipping purchases, phone services, and advertising purchases with social media sites each account anniversary year. Additionally, the Ink Preferred® earns one point per $1 on all other purchases - with no limit to the amount you can earn.

The Ink Business Cash℠ Credit Card, on the other hand, earns 5% cash back on the first $25,000 spent in combined purchases at office supply stores and on internet, cable and phone services each account anniversary year. The card also earns 2% cash back on the first $25,000 spent in combined purchases at gas stations and restaurants each account anniversary year as well as 1% cash back on all other card purchases. Both cards have very valuable rewards earning categories so determining which one is better for you depends on the expenses that you expect to have.

Differences in fees: Annual fee, foreign transaction fees, and intro APR

The fees charged by both of these cards can be helpful in evaluating which card is a better fit for you. The Ink Business Cash℠ Credit Card has no annual fee and has an introductory 0% APR on purchases for the first 12 months (then 14.74% - 20.74% Variable), but it does have foreign transaction fees of 3% of each transaction in U.S. dollars. This is quite different from the Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card with a $95 annual fee, 17.49% - 22.49% variable purchase and balance transfer APR, and no foreign transaction fees. When comparing the fees of the two cards, like in other areas mentioned, your business’ situation and spend is the most important factor in evaluating which card is a better fit. If you travel internationally frequently then having no foreign transaction fees offered by the Ink Preferred® could be a large benefit for you. However, if you are someone that wants to keep business expenses low and prefers a no-annual-fee card, then the Ink Business Cash℠ card may be a better fit for you.

Again, both cards are great options for business owners, but deciding which is best for your business comes down to how exactly you plan to use your card.
