CardRatings Editor's Analysis: Pros & Cons

  • You can earn a $50 statement credit per qualifying Hyatt purchase with your card up to two times each anniversary year.
  • After spending $50,000 in a calendar year you can get 10% of your redeemed points back for the rest of the year.

  • The annual fee may be hard to offset for those who don't travel often or who aren't loyal to Hyatt.

WORLD OF HYATT BUSINESS CREDIT CARD REWARDS

If you frequently travel for business and Hyatt is your preferred hotel choice, the new World of Hyatt Business Credit Card is a worthy contender in the world of business credit cards.

For starters, it has a generous sign-up bonus which gets membership started off on the right foot. New cardholders can earn 75,000 points once spending $7,500 within the first three months of opening an account. That’s enough points to book seven nights in a premium suite at a category one hotel, depending on travel dates and location. Right away you're benefitting from the card.

On an ongoing basis, cardholders earn:

  • 9X points on Hyatt stays
  • 2X points on fitness club and gym memberships
  • 1X point on all other purchases

Additionally, you can earn 2X points in your top three spending categories each quarter through Dec. 31, 2022. Eligible categories include:

  • Airline tickets (direct purchase with the airline required)
  • Gas stations
  • Car rental agencies
  • Local transit and commuting
  • Internet, cable and phone services
  • Social media and search engine advertising
  • Shipping
  • Dining

In addition to a strong rewards program, World of Hyatt Business Credit Card holders can look forward to a plethora of valuable travel perks, including:

  • Up to $100 in Hyatt statement credits: You can earn a $50 statement credit per qualifying Hyatt purchase with your card up to two times each anniversary year. Qualifying Hyatt purchases are single transactions of $50 or more made at Hyatt hotels and resorts (including at participating restaurants and participating locations that are owned, managed, franchised or licensed by Hyatt Corporation or its subsidiaries or affiliates).
  • 10% bonus point redemption: After spending $50,000 in a calendar year you can get 10% of your redeemed points back for the rest of the year.
  • Hyatt leverage program: Enjoy exclusive member discounts of up to 15% off of standard Hyatt hotel rates.
  • Trip cancellation and interruption insurance: Allows you to be reimbursed up to $6,000 per trip for “pre-paid and non-refundable passenger fares” if your trip gets canceled or is cut short as a result of sickness, bad weather or other covered scenarios.
  • Travel and emergency assistance services: Can connect you with legal and medical help if you encounter an emergency while traveling.
  • No foreign transaction fees: Helps you save money while traveling internationally.

HOW CAN YOU REDEEM WORLD OF HYATT BUSINESS CREDIT CARD POINTS?

To redeem your World of Hyatt Business Credit Card points, go to wordofhyatt.com and sign into your account. From there, you can redeem your points for:

  • Free stays at Hyatt
  • Meeting rooms or event at Hyatt
  • A relaxing massage at the spa
  • Dining
  • Experiences
  • Rental cars through Avis

In addition, you can convert your points to miles with certain airlines. However, this often isn't as good of deal as you'll likely get less miles in exchange for your points.

WORLD OF HYATT BUSINESS CREDIT CARD ELITE STATUS

If you're working towards gaining a higher elite status with Hyatt, the World of Hyatt Business Credit Card can help get you there. With the card you automatically gain Discoverist status — a lower tier elite status that otherwise requires 25,000 base points. This grants you access to exclusive benefits such as late check-out (2:00 PM), premium in-room internet, and waived resort fees. On top of that, you can get an extra 10% on qualifying Hyatt purchases.

For every 10,000 you spend in a calendar year you'll earn five tier qualifying night credits towards Explorist or Globalist status, where you'll have access to even more benefits. For example, if you reach Globalist status, you can check out even later at 4:00 PM and have access to suite upgrades, in addition to number of other valuable perks.

POTENTIAL DOWNSIDES OF THE WORLD OF HYATT BUSINESS CREDIT CARD

For a lot of folks, the main drawback of the card could be its $199 annual fee. If you don’t travel a lot, it could be difficult to offset this expense. In addition, only receiving one point for purchases in non-bonus spending categories could be an issue if you prefer flat bonus rates (such as 1.5 points for every purchase made).

Also, there are limited redemption options. This is understandable since it’s tied to the Hyatt brand; however, if you prefer a wide selection of redemption options (think cash back, gift cards and a variety of hotels), this card is likely not a good fit.

HOW DOES THE WORLD OF HYATT BUSINESS CREDIT CARD COMPARE TO OTHER BUSINESS CREDIT CARDS?

World of Hyatt Business Credit Card vs. Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card

Similar to the World of Hyatt Business Credit Card, the Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card card comes with a hefty sign-up bonus — 100,000 bonus points. However, you have to spend $15,000 in three months to earn it. The bonus is worth $1,000 when redeemed for cash back and $1,250 when redeemed through the Chase’s Ultimate Rewards®. Unlike the World of Hyatt Business Credit Card, you can redeem your points for flights, travel and a variety of hotels.

With the Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card you earn three points per dollar on the first $150,000 spent in combined purchases on travel, shipping purchases, Internet, cable and phone services, advertising purchases made with social media sites and search engines each account anniversary year. You earn one point for every dollar spent on other purchases.

Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card, like the Hyatt card, comes with no foreign transaction fees, trip cancellation and trip interruption insurance and travel and and emergency assistance services.

The Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card has an annual fee of $95.

World of Hyatt Business Credit Card vs. vs. American Express Blue Business Cash™ Card

The American Express Blue Business Cash™ Card comes with a welcome offer of $250 in statement credit after spending $3,000 in the first three months. Although the bonus isn’t as generous as the World of Hyatt Business Credit Card bonus, this card comes with no annual fee.

Unlike the World of Hyatt Business Credit Card, the American Express Blue Business Cash™ Card only offers one option for earning rewards: cash back. It offers 2% cash back on all purchases (up to $50,000) per calendar year. Afterward, you receive 1% cash back on all purchases.

The also card has a 0% intro APR on purchases for 12 months; afterward a variable APR between 13.24% - 19.24% Variable kicks in. This can help you save money on interest and better manage cash flow for your business.

World of Hyatt Business Credit Card vs. American Express® Business Gold Card

American Express® Business Gold Card has a decent welcome bonus. You can earn 70,000 membership rewards points after spending $10,000 within the first three months. It offers four points per dollar on the first $150,000 annually for the two qualifying categories your business spends the most per month. And it offers one point per dollar for other eligible purchases. You can receive four points per dollar in these categories: gas stations; TV, online, and radio advertisements; purchases made from qualifying technology providers; restaurants; and U.S. shipping fees.

Membership reward points can be redeemed for travel, gift certificates, Amazon purchases through Shop With Points or transferred to an eligible frequent flyer program.

Compared with the World of Hyatt Business Credit Card, it has a higher annual fee of $295.

IS THE WORLD OF HYATT BUSINESS CREDIT CARD A GOOD CARD?

The World of Hyatt Business Credit Card is a good card if you travel a lot and enjoy staying at Hyatt hotels and resorts. It comes with several wonderful benefits and perks that can offset the annual fee such as rewards, discounts and statement credits.

However, if you’re someone who doesn’t travel often, you may benefit more from getting a business credit card without an annual fee, such as the American Express Blue Business Cash™ Card.
