If you’ve been looking for a credit card that offers rewards, and especially if you’re a customer at TD Bank, you may be interested in the CardName.

CardName BENEFITS

There is a lot to like about the CardName. Some of its best features include:

  • A $150 welcome bonus – Earn $150 cash back in the form of a statement credit when you spend $1,000 within the first 90 days after account opening.
  • Cash back all the time – You’ll earn an unlimited 2% cash back on all eligible purchases.
  • No reward categories – That sounds like a negative, but, again, you’re getting 2% cash back for virtually everything you buy (purchases like money orders and lottery tickets are excluded). So there’s no having to keep track of rotating reward categories. For people who like simplicity, this is an attractive benefit.
  • Some perks – The card comes with some standard, unsurprising perks, like emergency card replacement, but also some really helpful ones, like cell phone protection and extended warranty protection.
  • No annual fee – Yes, credit cards with annual fees generally have a lot of perks and rewards that make them worthwhile, but most cardholders would probably prefer not to pay one.
  • 0% introductory APR on balance transfers – If you have a lot of debt on another card, this could be a very useful perk. You’ll get 0% APR on balance transfers for the first 15 billing cycles after opening an account. After that, regular APR applies: RegAPR

CardName REWARDS

What are the rewards for the CardName? Cardholders earn unlimited 2% cash back on all eligible purchases. There are no rotating spend categories, no caps or limits as long as your credit card account is open and in good standing.

And keep the welcome bonus in mind. If you spend $1,000 in the first 90 days after opening an account, you’ll earn $150 in the form of a statement credit.

WHAT ARE THE POTENTIAL DOWNSIDES OF THE CardName?

There are a few drawbacks you’ll want to consider before applying for the CardName.

  • Limited Availability. You may not be able to get the card, unless you’re willing to move. TD Bank isn’t a national bank. You’re eligible to apply for the card only if you live in the following states: Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Massachusetts, Maryland, Maine, North Carolina, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Virginia, Vermont or Washington, D.C.
  • There is no 0% APR period on purchases. A lot of credit cards will give you a year or more to buy stuff without interest charges. While this card offers an intro 0% APR period on balance transfers, this is not the case with purchases.
  • You can only redeem after you’ve collected 2,500 points. That’s $25 in cash back. That’s pretty standard with credit cards, though. It’s a drawback if you want to redeem your cash instantly after earning even just a few cents, but again, this is pretty standard.

HOW DOES THE CardName COMPARE TO OTHER CARDS?

CardName vs. CardName

discontinued

Citi is a CardRatings advertiser.

The CardName is also a good credit card if you’re looking for 2% cash back on everything. It works a little differently than the TD Bank card, though the end result is essentially the same. With the TD Bank card, you earn a flat 2% cash-back rate on all eligible purchases made with the card. With CardName, you’ll earn 1% cash back when you make your purchase and 1% cash back when you pay for those purchases (when you make at least the minimum payment on time).

Other features or non-features to consider:

  • No annual fee, which is also the case with CardName
  • There’s an intro 18-month, 0% APR interest offer on balance transfers for 18 months before RegAPR applies – with the TD Bank card, the intro offer is 15 months
  • Earn $200 cash back after you spend $1,500 on purchases in the first six months of account opening.

CardName vs. CardName

discontinued

CardName is definitely worth your consideration if you’re searching for a cash-back card. It offers 5% cash back on everyday purchases, which sounds like a no-brainer, and it sort of is, but it has rotating categories that you’ll need to activate, and then you’ll get 5% up to the quarterly maximum ($1,500). With purchases that don’t fit into the rotating categories, you’ll earn an unlimited 1% cash back. There’s little to complain about here; cash back is always a good thing – but some people might prefer the simplicity of the CardName (unlimited 2% all the time).

Other features of the CardName card to consider:

  • No annual fee
  • You’ll get a 0% intro APR for 15 months on purchases (then RegAPR)
  • Unlimited Cashback Match for all new cardmembers. Also, Discover will automatically match all the cash back you’ve earned at the end of your first year

CardName vs. CardName

discontinued

The CardName earns unlimited 1.5% cash back on all purchases, and that could make anyone think, "Why would I go with them, when I could get 2% off with TD Bank?"

But there’s more to CardName than its cash-back rewards. Its big selling point, beyond unlimited 1.5% cash back, is its 0% APR introductory offer on purchases and balance transfers for 15 months (then RegAPR; balance transfer fee applies. (CardName has a similar offer on balance transfers but not purchases.) If you’re looking to buy something kind of pricey and pay it back slowly over time, that 0% APR intro offer could be pretty valuable to you, and you might be fine with earning 1.5% cash back instead of 2%.

Other features to consider:

  • No annual fee
  • $200 cash bonus after spending $500 on purchases within three months of opening the account
  • No foreign transaction fees (TD Bank charges foreign_fee)

IS THE CardName A GOOD CARD?

If you’re looking for a credit card that offers unlimited cash back, and you’re happy with a 2% cash back rate, it’s a very good card if you live in an eligible state. If you really like your credit cards simple, without rotating categories, you may feel it’s an excellent card. And if you’re already banking at TD Bank or have been considering banking there, getting this credit card could be a very smart move.

Our Methodology

Survey methodology: CardRatings commissioned Op4G in September 2023 to conduct surveys among 1,869 cardholders nationwide. CardRatings website analytics from Jan. 1, 2023-Aug. 31, 2023 were used to determine a selection of the most popular cards and additional cards were included to add survey breadth. Responses to each of nine questions were given on a scale of 1-10 and respondents’ scores were then averaged under broad topics. To determine the overall score, responses from questions 1-8 were summed and the answer to "How likely are you to recommend this card to a friend, coworker or family member?" was double weighted. Current Scores reflect scores from the most recent survey (2023); “Past Scores” reflect scores from the 2022 survey.
