These days, almost everyone has a debit card. It's a card, put out by your bank or credit union, that links directly to your bank account. But very few people have a debit card that offers cash back and perks usually reserved for credit card holders.

That's exactly what the Sable Bank Account and Debit Card offers. Not only do you have the convenience of a bank card (along with protection against not accruing debt), you can also reap benefits generally reserved for traditional credit cards.

As a bonus, Sable Bank Account and Debit Card affords you the opportunity to build your credit score and help you qualify for the Secured Sable ONE Credit Card.

HOW DOES THE SABLE BANK ACCOUNT AND DEBIT CARD WORK?

The process for applying for and opening a Sable Bank Account and Debit Card is fast and simple, two words sure to make you smile. There is no income check and no credit check involved. Just provide your personal information, confirm your email address and download the Sable App.

Your "spending limit" will be the amount you deposit into your account. There is no minimum deposit and no maximum.

In most ways, the Sable Bank Account and Debit Card functions the same as your typical bank card. The card is welcomed everywhere cards are accepted and expenditures are immediately deducted from your account. You're not allowed to spend your balance, which provides a safeguard against overspending and getting into trouble with debt.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF THE SABLE BANK ACCOUNT AND DEBIT CARD?

It's the special extra features of the Sable Bank Account and Debit Card that set it apart from your typical bank card.

Let's start with the cash-back feature. You can earn 1% cash back on purchases made with such brands as Amazon, Netflix, Uber, UberEats, Hulu and Whole Foods Market. One percent may seem modest, but it's a bonus you won't receive with most other bank debit cards, if any.

Another feature of the Sable Bank Account and Debit Card is the extended warranty. Again, this is a feature generally reserved for credit cards. Sable will double the manufacturer's or retailer's warranty for eligible items purchased with your Sable Debit Card.

Sable also provides zero liability protection against unauthorized charges on your card. In addition, Sable offers a customer satisfaction guarantee. Sable will cover the cost of almost all purchases, within 60 days, if you are not satisfied with the product and the vendor won't accept the return.

Sable Bank Account and Debit Card also has features that will appeal to new residents of the United States. You can apply for an account with Sable by using your visa and passport if you don't yet have a social security number. Also, Sable guarantees the lowest fees on international cash transfers.

WHAT MAKES THE SABLE BANK ACCOUNT AND DEBIT CARD UNIQUE?

The Sable Bank Account and Debit Card is a hybrid, functioning as a debit card but with many of the same benefits of a credit card.

Another unique feature is that Sable Bank is entirely online. All your banking will be done using the Sable App.

Sable is more than just a bank account and debit card - it's a first step toward building or restoring your credit. A Sable Bank Account and Debit Card is a pre-requisite to applying for and obtaining a Secured Sable ONE Credit Card (compared below). This, in turn, provides the opportunity to graduate to an unsecured Sable One Credit Card in as little as four months.

WHAT ARE THE POTENTIAL DOWNSIDES OF THE SABLE BANK ACCOUNT AND DEBIT CARD?

If you like to look your banker in the eye, the online nature of Sable Bank may give you pause. While you have 24-hour access to customer service (either online or by phone), you won't have the chance to say hello to your favorite teller each week.

Because Sable Bank Account and Debit Card is not a credit card (secured or otherwise), your spending is limited to the balance in your account. This could limit your ability to use your card make purchases of "big-ticket" items. It might also limit your ability to make a spontaneous purchase that slightly exceeds your account balance.

HOW DOES THE SABLE BANK ACCOUNT AND DEBIT CARD COMPARE TO OTHER CARDS?

While the Sable Bank Account and Debit Card has certain benefits normally associated with credit cards, it's important to remember it's NOT a credit card, when making comparisons and deciding whether or not it's a good fit for you. Here's how it compares to some popular credit cards designed for people working on their credit:

Sable Bank Account and Debit Card vs. Secured Sable ONE Credit Card

These two cards are inexorably linked. Obtaining a Sable Bank Account and Debit Card is a requirement for applying for and being issued a Secured Sable ONE Credit Card. This is a bit unusual, as most secured credit cards allow you to link a bank account from any bank to your card. However, by following the path laid out by Sable, you can graduate to an unsecured Sable credit card in as soon as four months.

The Secured Sable ONE Credit Card has no annual fee and an attractive APR of just Prime + 6.99% APR (Variable).

In terms of cash back, the Secured Sable ONE Credit Card is a step up from its sister card. Cardholders can earn 2% cash back on purchases made with Amazon, Hulu, Netflix, Spotify, Uber and Whole Foods, and 1% cash back on all other purchases. There is no limit on the amount of cash back you can accumulate and it can be redeemed at any time in the form of a statement credit.

Like the Sable Debit Card, Secured Sable ONE Credit Card offers purchase protection, extended warranty coverage, and satisfaction guaranteed coverage. It also offers price protection and car rental insurance. Plus, if you use your card to make your cell phone payments, you are covered for eligible damage to your phone, including a cracked screen.

Sable Bank Account and Debit Card vs. Capital One Quicksilver Secured Cash Rewards Credit Card

Both cards are designed for those with limited or bad credit and are tools that can be used with a goal of building or restoring your credit score.

Both cards offer cash-back rewards. While Sable Bank Account and Debit Card offers 1% cash-back on purchases with certain brands, Capital One Quicksilver Secured Cash Rewards Credit Card offers a flat 1.5% on all purchases.

Sable Bank Account and Debit Card has no minimum balance required. Capital One Quicksilver Secured Cash Rewards Credit Card requires a minimum deposit of $200.

As a debit card, Sable has no interest rate because purchase amounts are taken immediately from your account. Capital One Quicksilver Secured Cash Rewards Credit Card has an interest rate of 26.99% (Variable).

Neither card charges an annual or monthly fee to account holders.

Both cards offer fraud protection, but Sable Bank Account and Debit Card also offers purchase protection, extended warranty coverage, and satisfaction guaranteed coverage.

Both Sable and Capital One offer paths to better credit scores and the privileges that go with it. The next step after the Sable Bank Account and Debit Card is the Secured Sable One Credit Card. The next step with 26.99% (Variable) is a higher spending limit with no additional deposit required.

Sable Bank Account and Debit Card vs. Chime Credit Builder Secured Visa® Credit Card

While Sable Bank Account and Debit Card has some features of a credit card, Chime® Credit Builder Secured Credit Builder Visa® Card has some features of a debit card. Neither card has annual or monthly fees and neither card has an APR. This makes the Chime® Credit Builder Secured Credit Builder Visa® Card very unusual among credit cards, even secured cards.

Both cards can be acquired with little credit or bad credit but both also also require you open a spending account before your card is issued. While Sable Debit has no minimum deposit, Chime requires a minimum deposit of at least $200.

One interesting difference between the two cards comes in the area of rewards. While Sable Debit gives you the chance to earn 1% cash back on purchases with several select brands, including Amazon, Spotify and UberEats, Chime Credit Builder Secured Visa offers no rewards program of any type.

Another key difference is that Sable Bank Account and Debit Card is part of a defined path to higher credit scores and more spending privileges. While Chime® Credit Builder Secured Credit Builder Visa® Card provides the opportunity to build your credit, it is not part of a defined path that builds to upgrade spending privileges.

WHO IS A GOOD FIT FOR THE SABLE BANK ACCOUNT AND DEBIT CARD?

The Sable Bank Account and Debit Card is an excellent option for someone who doesn't need a "brick and mortar" bank building. If your financial life is conducted online, this card is right up your alley.

This card is a terrific tool for someone who has very little credit or damaged credit. Sable Bank Account and Debit Card is Step 1 in a clearly defined path toward building or rebuilding your credit score and achieving greater spending privileges.
