Barclaycard and Choice Hotels have teamed up to offer new holders of their rewards credit cards up to five free nights at participating hotels and resorts around the world.
In a statement to reporters, officials from both companies announced updates to their Choice Privileges Visa Signature credit card. The card now features a new reward structure that offers 15 Choice Privileges points for every dollar spent at a qualifying Choice Hotels property. Members earn:
- Five points for every dollar spent on Choice Hotels gift certificates
- Two points for every dollar spent on gas or groceries
- One point for every dollar spent elsewhere
In addition, new cardholders will earn 24,000 bonus points upon completing their first purchase or balance transfer with the credit card. After that, cardholders can earn another 16,000 bonus points the first time they use their Choice Privileges Visa Signature cards to pay for a stay at a participating Choice Hotels property. Redeeming those 40,000 reward points at any of 1,500 hotels in the program's lowest award bracket results in five free nights. Members can choose fewer free nights at upgraded properties, or exchange their points for gift certificates or for frequent flyer miles with partner airlines.
Choice Hotels brands represent hotel and resort properties in a variety of price ranges, including:
- Comfort Inn
- Comfort Suites
- Quality
- Sleep Inn
- Clarion
- Cambria Suites
- MainStay Suites
- Suburban Extended Stay Hotel
- Econo Lodge
- Rodeway Inn
- Ascend Collection
Barclays spokeswoman Ann-Marie Archino told reporters that changes to the card's earning structure would help satisfy customers who had expressed a desire to earn more free hotel nights faster. Choice Hotels spokesperson Greg Brown confirmed that the new rewards program and signup bonuses marked the first time his company planned to give away so many hotel nights to new customers.
