Continental Airlines departing American Express Membership Rewards in 2011
September 22, 2010
By: Joe Taylor Jr.
Both Continental and United currently offer co-branded frequent flyer credit cards in partnership with Chase. However, airline officials did not elaborate on whether the planned departure from the American Express Membership Rewards program hinted at upcoming changes to their Chase credit card offerings. Both airlines continue to participate in American Express' "Pay with Points" program, allowing Cardmembers to redeem points for online airline bookings.
While the instant ticket redemption option suits many Cardmembers, some frequent flyers may miss the ability to convert American Express points into miles so they can qualify for less expense reward tickets, or for perks like access to upgrades and airport lounges.
