Visa, American Express Post List of Fee-Free Credit Card Donation Sites

Typically, charities that accept credit cards must pay between two and four percent of pledged amounts as interchange fees to their payment processors. Processors share those fees among clearing banks and transaction networks, covering the costs of moving money from credit lines to charities' accounts.
Visa and American Express have publicly announced that they will refund their portions of interchange fees collected on behalf of qualifying relief agencies through the end of February. Some charities have also negotiated free or discounted interchange fees from their payment processors, usually disclosing those agreements on their websites.
American Express officials told reporters this week that consumers could monitor a list of charities benefitting from discounted interchange fees. That list has been posted on the website of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID).
