M&T Relaunching Visa Credit Cards Once Outsourced to MBNA
Customers of M&T Bank can prepare to see a flurry of marketing material in their mailboxes this summer, as the bank relaunches its own in-house credit card programs. For the last twelve years, M&T outsourced its credit card lending operations to what was then the white label services division of MBNA. Even after that company was bought by Bank of America, M&T customers still received cards and statements that looked like they came from their hometown branches.

According to a recent report in the Buffalo News, M&T's growth over the past few years has made it a more substantial competitor against Bank of America in the retail banking business. Therefore, the company plans to offer its own Visa-branded credit cards to customers over the next few months. However, Bank of America announced plans to reissue credit cards to existing M&T cardholders under its own logo. M&T officials hope to lure those customers to its own product by emphasizing customer service and account management convenience.
