There are stuck in that gray area between being a major card and just some fringe item you really don;t need.

They have been good and I like the card. Their 0% offer on purchases and BT's for one year was great.

As for the Motiva. I looked at it after reading this thread.

I can not see any reason to get it if you already have a Discover card. It didn;t look appealing to me even if I didn;t already have a Discover card.
_________________
91% Humor free posting since June, 2006

Avg FICO 645

2 reports full of perfection

*some comments stolen and/or paraphrased from mouse.

1 report with 1 derog.

I like sloppy joes in hot dog buns.

CardRatings.com is the most comprehensive source for comparing credit card offers.&nbsp&nbspPlease visit CardRatings.com to view the best rated credit cards!

Guest: bullwinkle29
Credit Expert (100+ Posts)
Posted: Thu Apr 26, 2007 1:58 pm

AS I SAID EARLIER, MOTIVA IS LOOKS GOOD TO ME FOR THE REASON IT AVG DAILY BALANCE AND NOT 2 CYCLE BILLING, GREAT IF YOU NEED TO CARRY A BALANCE FOR A MONTH
_________________
TU EX EQ
769 772 782

CardRatings.com is the most comprehensive source for comparing credit card offers.&nbsp&nbspPlease visit CardRatings.com to view the best rated credit cards!

Guest: multiplierx
Credit Expert (100+ Posts)
Posted: Thu Apr 26, 2007 1:59 pm

TomfromCT wrote:
I used to go to CB too. Every three-four months they offer programs that will reward you with a 5% cash back credit. When you reach the first $20.00 you can request cash, double your reward for purchases on their site or even apply to your balance, or leave it alone to use when you want.

I pay in full each month, so I pay no interest, and I was able to apply $200. to my balance in March.

Recommend the card…..But…each their own.

CardRatings.com is the most comprehensive source for comparing credit card offers.&nbsp&nbspPlease visit CardRatings.com to view the best rated credit cards!

Guest: RacieRacer
Credit Expert (100+ Posts)
Posted: Thu Apr 26, 2007 12:22 pm

multiplierx wrote:
Out of all of my cards, I am beginning to favor Discover among the top. While I agree that FF account restrictions very substantially limit their use, they are still better than a kick in the pants; that is not the subject of my particular inquiry just now. I am assuming that my FF accounts have enough potential value that I should maintain them in an active status, and am simply looking to do so easily. Because my schedule is likely to leave little time for travel in the next 2 or 3 years I currently keep program accounts active awkwardly: by making small purchases from vendors that participate with the airlines or hotels, by dining with credit cards linked to airline programs through restaurant promotional programs, etc, and by using the few traditional airline credit cards that have means to bypass fees, as the Citibank AA card through their CitiGold program.

I suspect the accuracy of the posting to the effect that the credit card I seek does not exist. Nonetheless, I cannot see why it should be any problem to offer such a card since some hotel frequent guest programs offer exactly what I am seeking, though with limited flexibility and unattractive point conversion rates, and since car rental companies arrange to offer actual mileage to any of numerous airline and hotel patronage accounts.

Anyway, I am not in this inquiry looking for easier means to redeem mileage, but simply to transfer from card points to airline mileage and hotel points about once a year with substantial flexibility. If anyone comes across a card that offers actual mileage transfers to FF & hotel programs, that's what I'd like to know.

CardRatings.com is the most comprehensive source for comparing credit card offers.&nbsp&nbspPlease visit CardRatings.com to view the best rated credit cards!

Guest: RacieRacer
Credit Expert (100+ Posts)
Posted: Thu Apr 26, 2007 2:05 pm

I don't know if this will please you any more than anything else, but have you considered the Citi PremierPass Elite Card?

Earn points for the things you buy and the miles you fly on any airline
2 points for every dollar spent at supermarkets, drugstores, gas stations, commuter transportation and parking merchants2
1 point for every dollar spent on all other purchases2
1 point for every mile you fly on any airline2
1 point for every mile flown by anyone else whose ticket you buy with your card1
Here's an example to show how fast your points can add up... I have not looked at the card you mention in any detail, but Citibank has told me in some extensive discussion that they offer no cards such I wish. From your description, it would appear that the card offers something of the reverse of my needs: it appears to offer points for mileage actually flown - and my problem arises from not currently flying at all - and it awards travel (that is, tickets) rather than miles, or awards other ThankYou program merchandise.

I think I'm just out of luck. I'll just have to keep remembering how to juggle partners around - this credit card for sending dining points to US, that card for sending them to United, TGIF annual meal for Radisson; then checking annually to see which account I still have to use for FTD flowers and to buy garbage bag supplies for a second lifetime. Life could be worse.

CardRatings.com is the most comprehensive source for comparing credit card offers.&nbsp&nbspPlease visit CardRatings.com to view the best rated credit cards!

<!--

The Citibank AA card, for example, is around $85 annually (waived for CitiGold customers). On the other hand, when renting a car I can specify which airline or hotel should receive mileage with each rental, and, even better, with many hotel and airline frequent-guest point accounts I can transfer points and miles back and forth at will between the hotel points program and several airline FF accounts (although with conversion rates that provide diminishing returns each way, as when exchanging money).

I do not want to pay a fee and I do not want to remember which cards to use when. There are numerous cards that incur no fees and advertise mileage on any, or any of numerous, airlines - but in fact, those that I have checked do not allow any actual transfer of miles, but award travel tickets entirely independently of one's FF account (if any).

I would like a card that works more like a hotel frequent-guest account. I could spend $10K, say, and then at the end of the year divvy up the 10,0000 miles into whatever ten air (and hotel) patronage accounts have been inactive all year. This should be attractive to issuers because it would be the card I would use most constantly; and the program costs and mechanics should not be too onerous because many hotel accounts are set up exactly this way.

I do have some of the cards listed in the posts above, but I have to remember too much about activity levels in FF accounts to determine what card to use when, and some of these cards incur fees. Adding mileage to my FF accounts is much more useful to me than obtaining travel awards directly because I have numerous FF and hotel accounts with high balances but which are relatively inactive these days, thus at risk of forfeiture. I would like only one single card that awards mileage on any and all FF and hotel accounts rather than travel on any airlines. Such an arrangement should not be that difficult since the hotels do so.

CardRatings.com is the most comprehensive source for comparing credit card offers.&nbsp&nbspPlease visit CardRatings.com to view the best rated credit cards!

Guest: LustfortheMoment
Credit Expert (100+ Posts)
Posted: Wed Apr 25, 2007 11:27 pm

Quote:
I would like only one single card that awards mileage on any and all FF and hotel accounts rather than travel on any airlines.

It DOESN'T exist.

I have over 200,000 United FF miles and 250,000 Delta Skymiles but have closed both my Mileage Plus and AMEX Skymiles cards. Why?? Because it has become more and more difficult to get domestic flights for only 25,000 miles. I've had more luck with United than Delta, but in reality you often have to expend 50,000 miles to get the flights which you wish. When I costed it out, I found that I was better off getting around $1400/year from AMEX Blue Cash than in continuing with the FF cards.

JMHO........

CardRatings.com is the most comprehensive source for comparing credit card offers.&nbsp&nbspPlease visit CardRatings.com to view the best rated credit cards!

Guest: hdporter
Credit Expert (100+ Posts)
Posted: Thu Apr 26, 2007 12:25 am

I agree with you on the frustration these days with FF accounts. Unless you book well in advance (say, 4 mo or more) it can be difficult to secure an economy seat for 25K mi.

I had one experience last year where that turned out to be not such a bad thing. We went to Hawaii in late Nov and I had planned to redeem 25K, we were booking in early Oct and those tickets weren't to be had. So, we had to pop 100K for the two of us -- but, as it was, we could get first class for the same mileage.

It was a milage splurge that we wouldn't have gone for otherwise, preferring not to burn 2 trips in one. But we loved the extra comfort for the long haul from Philly -- it was simply glorious. Can't tell you just how much of a pleasure it was to recline our seats almost entirely horizontally for the red-eye flight home!

- Harry

CardRatings.com is the most comprehensive source for comparing credit card offers.&nbsp&nbspPlease visit CardRatings.com to view the best rated credit cards!

Guest: mouse
SENIOR MEMBER (Member for 2 yrs.+)
Post subject: Travel Rewards Credit Card
Posted: Thu Apr 26, 2007 12:35 am

Sometimes you just have to book your flight 330 days out

or

Be willing to book and go with less than 4 weeks

CardRatings.com is the most comprehensive source for comparing credit card offers.&nbsp&nbspPlease visit CardRatings.com to view the best rated credit cards!

Guest: kenn
Posted: Thu Apr 26, 2007 1:02 pm

Thanks again for the advice.

<!--

Excluding the high-fee cards associated with a single airline, are there any cards that offer actual transfer of mileage, say in 1000 mile increments, into numerous major airlines (hotel accounts, too)? I am more interested in keeping inactive FF accounts active. I am looking for a card that works more like a car rental company's award system: once a year I could just transfer 1000 points from the accumulated card 'reward' balance into equivalent mileage in each of several FF accounts which I could specify at the time.

Such transfers within programs of the hospitality and travel industries appear to be common (albeit with diminishingly attractive conversion rates), but I do not find similar bank programs. Direct purchase of mileage points from airlines tends to be prohibitive. At present I have to remember which card is linked to what airline for dining mileage promotions, when to buy annual FTD flowers, etc. (I bought a lifetime supply of garbage bags last day of the USAirways year....)

CardRatings.com is the most comprehensive source for comparing credit card offers.&nbsp&nbspPlease visit CardRatings.com to view the best rated credit cards!

Guest: RacieRacer
Credit Expert (100+ Posts)
Posted: Wed Apr 25, 2007 2:43 pm

kenn wrote:
Some of my cards claim explicitly to offer so many miles per dollar for various airlines, but in fact they award only travel/tickets, not mileage at all. And after about 4 months later, I start getting offers of subprime credit cards in my mail box, however, my Capital One card is somewhat not subprime. My goal is to apply and get approved for at least one major prime credit card. Is there any way I could get offers of prime credit cards in my mailbox for such a short period?

I know that my credit score needs to be in the 700 or 800's to qualify for a major card with an introductory APR of 0%, no annual fee, low APRs, etc.

CardRatings.com is the most comprehensive source for comparing credit card offers.&nbsp&nbspPlease visit CardRatings.com to view the best rated credit cards!

Guest: Brammy
Credit Expert (100+ Posts)
Posted: Wed Apr 18, 2007 6:07 pm

Flxiblemetro wrote:
Hello again everyone,

I had no credit history when I got approved for a Best Buy store credit card with no annual fee back in August of 2006, so I have established good credit for the past 7 or 8 months. I applied for the cash plus card and got a $200 limit. Two cli later it is up to $700 and it was like pulling teeth. After the last increase I applied for the Sony Chase card and got the same $2,500 limit with a 12 months interest free period. I will probably just ask to transfer the limit to my cash plus card I guess.

CardRatings.com is the most comprehensive source for comparing credit card offers.&nbsp&nbspPlease visit CardRatings.com to view the best rated credit cards!

Guest: cowb0ysfan
Posted: Thu Apr 19, 2007 1:09 pm

I have this post in another topic "Chase Cards" but it seems to be more relevant here:

I received a Pre-Approved Chase invitation in June of 06. Responded to the offer via. website and was told my card would arrive in 7-10 days. I couldn't believe the initial $400 CL. This was by far my lowest CL ever! I used the card for the past 9 months and PIF'd every time. I recently hit the LUV button and had to fill out a short app. The message said that they would contact me shortly with a decision. I got the letter about a week later and they raised my CL to $600. WTF??? All this trouble for a $200 CLI not to mention the hard pull from EX. It's like a double shot to the chin...hard pull + really low limit anyway. I called to complain but they did nothing for me. Offered to re-evaluate in 30 days for another hard pull.

Why is Chase so cheap with CLI's??? I'm afraid to apply for any other Chase cards due to their low CL's. They're not worth the hard pulls in my opinion. Also, my card is a Platinum MC only, no rewards of any kind with a 20.88% APR. Just an ugly card overall.

CardRatings.com is the most comprehensive source for comparing credit card offers.&nbsp&nbspPlease visit CardRatings.com to view the best rated credit cards!

<!--

The reason I got it was because the cashback percent on my Citi platinum dividend card was reduced. The chase freedom card gives 3% back on fast food and you can redeem $200 for a $250 check.

However, I needed to have at least a $1500 credit limit to use the card comfortably. So I asked for a CLI and was denied.

Fine.

I waited a while and asked for another increase and was denied again. At this point I assumed that Chase considered me a credit risk and wasn't planning to give me credit.

Then, in early January, I got an Amazon credit card just to get a $30 credit to buy a couple of CDs. Turns out that this was a Chase card too. I saw it appear on Chase's card management site. And it had a $2500 limit to start out!

I called customer service to ask why they would give me $2500 credit even though they wouldn't increase my $500 limit even by $500. They didn't give me a meaningful answer, but they told me that they can transfer the credit limit from the Amazon card to the Freedom card. I had no idea this was possible. So I transfered most of my Amazon limit to the Freedom limit and was able to start using the Freedom card again.

Now, last week I tried to get another CLI on my Freedom Card - and, big surprise, I was turned down.

So, I simply applied for a random Chase card - the Starbucks Duetto. And lo and behold, I was approved for another $2500. And again, I just transfered the credit limit.

Now, why is Chase doing this? Why can't they just give me a CLI?

CardRatings.com is the most comprehensive source for comparing credit card offers.&nbsp&nbspPlease visit CardRatings.com to view the best rated credit cards!

Guest: xace
Posted: Mon Apr 09, 2007 3:39 pm

Chase seems weird about CLI. Im not sure why they are like this. When I received my new account in Jan they approved me for 2,500. When I activated the account I asked for a higher limit to compete with my other accounts. I asked for 6,000. They had to pull another report for this. I plan to apply in 6 months for a Chase Freedom card to add to my current Chase Platinum card. I want to have three accounts with Chase.

CardRatings.com is the most comprehensive source for comparing credit card offers.&nbsp&nbspPlease visit CardRatings.com to view the best rated credit cards!

Guest: TheTick
Posted: Mon Apr 09, 2007 10:13 pm

Did you get the CLI?

Should I bother asking for a CLI at all?

CardRatings.com is the most comprehensive source for comparing credit card offers.&nbsp&nbspPlease visit CardRatings.com to view the best rated credit cards!

<!--
