I have the platinum AMEX and they do have free international companion tickets on business and first class only. I think the benefits of the card are worth more than $450 ONLY if you travel a lot. I enjoy the hotel upgrades the most and I use concierge all the time. I can't complain about the fee or the service I receive from AMEX, but what I REALLY like about it is, when I call customer service, they pick up the phone in ft. lauderdale, fl, not India.

What I am ticked off about is everyone seems to think a platinum card at $450 a year is the way to go, I disagree
Not everyone. I believe the no AF is the way to go. Non of my cards has an AF.
The 4 companion tickets can be good business for someone. For me, it's very tempting.
