MBNA Credit Card Offers

mbna credit protector & 20% off gift cards and others...

Anybody do this? I guess the key is not having any balance at statement close or use another MBNA card to purchase the gc's, which is apparently allowed based on info on fat wallet. Curious if anybody takes advantage of this...you get charged 90 cents or so for every 100 of statement balance.....I guess that I havent been offered on our 2 mbna cards...

Providian also has a "Buysmart" program that is no longer available for new members....Dealpass is a non credit card related program for buying gift cards, but is targeted...we discussed that on the money board here awhile back...Fat Wallet has a long discussion of this also....

My national city card has a program also through Trilegiant, but not available in my state (WI).....

Are you saying that if you sign up for MBNA's credit protector service you get access to a 20% off gift card service of some sort? I didn't know that. Can you cancel the credit protector service and keep the gift card service, or max out what you can get from the gift card service the first (free) month? I know at one point MBNA had a special program like this but I thought it had been phased out....

Providian's BuySmart was great for me. I used it to buy 100 Staples $25 gift cards for $2000 and bought stamps with them for a 20% discount from face value! I then cancelled since I couldn't buy more gift cards--100 was my membership limit. Two months ago I called and tried to resubscribe, and was turned down. I was told BuySmart no longer allows Providian cardholders to sign up on request--you have to be targeted with a specific offer. Ouch.

Yes. But I dont know if it is targeted or not...and it is limited to a small amount of cards (something like 100-150 bucks per merchant per month and some quarterly limit)...apparently you can buy more but wont get credited the 20%...so you have to keep track....I am not sure but I think the credit protector service is required for the gift cards.....but as I noted, a couple of ways around paying the protector fees...

Thanks for the info!

I can't use this one right now--my sole MBNA card is on a 0% BT for another 3 months, so I can't join this particular program since I am carrying a hefty balance...

Restructuring Citi Dividend MasterCard Rewards Credit Card

Post subject: Restructuring Citi Dividend MasterCard Rewards Credit Card

I just called Customer Service and spoke with a manager, pretty high up on the totem pole. He told me that the reason the Dividend Mastercard ( i don't know about AMEX) is not on the website now is because they are restructuring the rewards program, due to enormous customer feedback and comments about what they want this card to be.

These changes will take effect in September or October. Notices will be sent out soon.

Although he could not definitely tell me what changes will be happening, he told me the following "might be occurring", from what he has heard from higher up"

1) The $300 cap will be raised (how much, he didn't know).
2) The 1% on non-EDP purchases will go up to 2% or 3%.
3) The 5% on EDP will be reduced to the percentage in #2 above.
4) The definition of EDP will be expanded to include Walmart, Target, and the convenience store part of gas stations, and possible other "convenience" formats.
5) More changes which he would not tell me.

Whether these changes will make the card better or not, I can't say.

However, watch your mail !

Very interesting...As for #2 and #3 above, if EDP and non-EDP are at the same %, what's the point in keeping them seperate?

Actually, from the way the Citibank manager talked, I got the impression that this is going to be a straight 2 or 3 % card, with no tiers (but maybe many tears).

Actually, the post above is correct: If both non-EDP and EDP are the same percentages, why differentiate?

We'll have to see what happens. For the moment, my Dividend remains in the sock-drawer. I already blew through my $300 by March 1.

Hmm...the Dividend card is not on the main Citi site anymore (the MC version at least, American Express is still there).

Anyone have an update?

I've been using the AMEX version for super market and gas purchases in the past month and did earn 5% back.

I think so long as the Markets/gas stations/drug stores you go to accept AMEX then their isn't really a difference from the Mastercard version. It's still a $300.00 limit and the APR for purchases is the same.

As discussed, you apparently can still apply for the Citi Div Plat Select at the following link:
http://www.citibank.com/us/cards/cardserv/divplat/index.jsp#
However, it's been removed from their menu of cards on the main website.

Of course, with a revised P+9.99% rate for new cardholders (as of a few months ago), it's one of their least attractive cards.

Re a couple of other Citi cards:

--> I find it interesting that they appear to have pulled the Citi Simplicity card entirely; it's been less than a year since it's introduction. There's no alternative website through which to apply.

We haven't received any notice of it's discontinuation for current customers. We just requested a "PayPass key" and received it along with a new card.

I'm tempted to call customer service and see if the option menu is still immediately interrupted when you press "0". Of course, the card had one ill-conceived feature: "No late fees!" (We'll just rate-jack you by 20% the 2nd time you're late, but take consolation that you won't be charged a fee.)

--> FWIW, the ATT Universal Rewards card (non cash rewards) is still active. However, it's another one that's been pulled from their menu of card offerings. Nonetheless, you can apply at:
http://www.universalcard.com/us/cards/ucs/compare_01.htm

We don't use this card actively, but still take advantage of the 30 min. of monthly free calling and 2 directory assistance calls.

The discontinuation of the ATT Universal Dividend (cash) Rewards card has been discussed here for several months now.

I was approved for my Citi Div Plat Select a few weeks ago and have yet to receive the card. The Citi card I applied for a few days ago I have already received. I was just emailed a notice that Citi Div Plat card would be sent out within the next 10 days with some updates in the credit card agreement.

I'm still excited about this card and just hope the rewards continue for a long time and the 5% rate doesn't drop off.

I just applied for what i thought was going to be a Citi Dividend Platinum Select MasterCard but was told that i was accepted for a Citi Dividend AMEX card. It's suppose to have the same 5% cash back for Grocery, Drugstore, Gas purchases. If it doesn't have the 5% back when i receive it in 2 weeks then i'll come back and post about it.
The Citi AMEX actually has a much higher rate than the MC
If you're referring to the APR for purchases the MasterCard version is currently listed at 18.24% and the AMEX version is the same.

If you are talking abou the AT&T universal card, the same thing happend to my roommate a few months ago. They sent here something in the mail saying that they closed her account due to inactivity. They never called or mailed her anything prior to that. I guess they don't even ask if you want to keep it open or not, they just automatically close it. I'll never get that card!

Okay Folks, my bad - kinda'. After spending a huge amount of time on the phone yesterday, I found out that CitiBank DID send out two notifications that they were no longer in a 'relationship' with AT&T! Guess what?!? I did not receive those notifications! Is it me or the Post Office - or CitiBank????

And talk about mixed signals. The first lady I talked to yesterday assured me there was a replacement card mailed to me. Since the account was closed June 30th and it was mid-July and no card had been received, I called back and talked to another person to also assured me that I had been misinformed. If I had not responded to the letter (I didn't get) by a certain date, the account closed and there was no replacement.

So, I spend another (considerable) amount of time on the phone applying for the new American Express Cash Return card at 5% for all grocery stores, drug stores and gas stations.

CitiDividends Network Rewards Credit Card

Guest: morebate
Post subject: CitiDividends Network Rewards Credit Card
Posted: Tue Jul 11, 2006 9:08 am

Was curious..........(I have this card)..........about their "NETWORK" they speak of??

Their TOS say that rewards are "UNLIMITED" when used "inside the CitiDividends netowrk". Anybody know where to find out who the heck qualifies as "inside the network"????

I couldn't find info on it.

One reason it's peaked my curiosity is that I know that they have $300 max and my statement date this week shows that I just went over that amount. (My rebate *available* shows $314, so I'm wondering if I didn't buy from within their "netowrk" to get over $300).

I was ready to sock-drawer the card 'til my anniversary date passes again (using my new Discover gas card during the interim) but if I can find out who their "network" vendors are perhaps I'll still use it there!!!

(P.S. I clicked on "request a rebate check" and it said it couldn't process my request & I need to call. I wonder if that, too, has anything to do with my rebate amount showing *over* the $300 mark.........LOL!!)

TIA

Not cost effective to them

Lack of use by customers

THEY ADD AND DELETE CARDS FROM TIME TO TIME

Usually they try to get you MORE (sometimes they end up giving you less)

AS IN DISCOVERCARD IS 0.25% MAX AT WALMART/SAMS (never 1.00%)

Boy am I confused. Like a responsible person, I knew my account with AT&T was posted on the 10th of the month, so today, July 11, I printed my statement to verify purchases.

When I checked for the 'rewards' - which pay when they reach $50.00 - it said I was not enrolled in a rewards program. I started to write an e-mail them, and was informed that feature was not active and was given an 800# to call. So I did.

The nice lady informed me my account had been closed. HuH? Why? I didn't do anything wrong ... always paid before the due date ... always paid a few dollars more .... ??? Well, she said, they had not been able to reach me. HuH? Oh? Was this one of the incoming phone calls with an number I didn't know, which I chose not to answer, who didn't leave a message? "Yes", she said. "Must have been." And, she said, they mailed me notices - which I didn't receive. And, of course, the account was closed as of today. She said it was closed for 'business reasons' and could not explain why there was nothing on the website stating the account was closed.

Is this right? Is this legal? Who can/should I complain to except you, oh dear reader of cardratings.com? I really don't care except I'm a bit frustrated that I wasn't notified and the fact that the cash back was a very nice feature. Plus the fact that had I not called TODAY, I made a purchase for prescription drugs for my husband and normally would have used that card. It would have been very embarassing to have the card turned down.

Will look forward to responses to this .... jobbaker

There are rumors about Chase terminating the Rewards Plus card. It has been removed from their website and they are no longer signing up new accounts, but nothing has been said officially to current cardholders.

The Citi Dividend card is still on the website.

I guess, like the Discover Restaurant rewards card, the first step to extinction is being removed from the website.

Should I pay off my credit card each month?

Guest: latestgood
Post subject: Should I pay off my credit card each month?
Posted: Tue Aug 15, 2006 5:31 pm

Hello,

I am 19 years old who has no credit history. Well, I called Bank of America and they told me that I can get a secured Card. All I have to do is deposit $99.00 and I would $500 Secured Card. They told me that secured Card is just like credit card and I don't have to pay full balance each month, I can pay minium if I want to. Here is the question, I heard that it's better for me to carry 30% balance to increase my credit faster. Or is it better to pay everything each month? If I had no choice but to carry over the balance to next month (30% or lower) would it hurt my credit?

Thank you.

No way do you want to pay interest at such a rate. Pay in full.

To put you in good stead for an unsecured card, you simply want to actively use the card for your standard day-to-day purchases, and then pay the balance off in full after you receive the statement. BofA will favorably consider your application for an unsecured card within a year; likely after six months.

However, as with all cards, your credit score is weakened somewhat if you do take the balance much above 30%. It would probably be best to run up a balance no higher than $200 on a $500 limit.

FWIW, the reporting of this, or any, card to the credit bureaus makes no distinction between someone who carries a balance over one statement to the next and someone who pays the statement off in full after it's received -- both credit reports will reflect the account balance as of the statement date, establishing your credit worthiness when payments are timely made.

The card definitely exists. On other boards they say that you have to apply for a regular BoA card and they might offer it to you when they deny you for the normal card, presuming you meet their criteria, of course.

They also say that they are soon going to drop or reduce the deposit and charge an annual fee instead. I'd rather leave $99 on deposit than pay a $40 or $50 annual fee, though!

I wish I had known about this before I got my secured card with BofA in Jan. I had to pay an annual fee of $29 plus my deposit amount had to match my limit...which meant a pretty low limit for me.

Are you a student? If so, you should look into student cards. If not, then definitely get this card. It's the best secured card offer that I have found. BofA has been great...no problems for me. They report to all 3 CB's every month and only my TU is listed as a secured card. I keep my utilization below 30% and PIF every month. I am slowly on my way to establishing a good credit history. With only this card for 6 mo. my FICO climbed to 709.

I recently went on a little app-o-rama and now have 3 more cards- BofA/MBNA Amex rewards, Amex One, and a Target card. I also applied for a Citi card, but was denied and am going to ask for reconsideration since they stated late payments as one of the reasons, but I have never been late.

Good luck!
