Do we have a list of issuers of VISA Signature and World Mastercard who will show the credit limit upon request?

I don't think the request was for the names of issuers ... instead, the OP wants to know who will post credit limits upon request for these cards that otherwise only show high balance.

American Express Credit Lines on Business vs. Personal Credit Card Accounts

Does anyone know whether you can allocate a portion (or all) of an AMEX business card credit line to the credit line on a personal card? Also, if you have personal and business accounts with AMEX, do they both show up when you log in to view your personal accounts? Thanks.

Yes to both questions. You can reallocate the limits online. (I don't remember if all my cards were added automatically to the same login ID. I do know that if a card is missing from your online account, you can add it.)

AMEX cards arent added automatically. You need to add them manually then you can reallocate as you please.

Having a lot of recently closed credit cards (even if closed by the consumer) on your credit reports would be considered a negative when you apply for a prime class card. The reason is that they will think you will likely close their card also and of couse issuing a card cost them money. So do not close any more cards. Closing cards also reduces your available credit and raises your utilization ratio (if you have any balances). Your score is very good, but your credit history is short (I assume less than 2 years). I would wait a month for the dust to settle, pay your card balances in full (makes your reports look better), and then apply for a rewards card like Citi. After you get the new card, you can call Amex and ask them to close one of the two and combune the credit limits especially if both charge annual fees.

I already have an Amex. Actually I have 2. The platinum and costco

I pay all my cards in full.

I have about 2k on my costco...it has a 45k limit.

So i paid that off like whatevers

My other cards I always pay in full. But I just dont like them.

My question is. What card should I apply for in say 6 months? Visa - Mastercard.

Hello Messiah (I always wanted to say that)-

I'm confused why you don't like your old cards, and why you want another card. What are you trying to accomplish with your cards? Then maybe we can give some advice.

Your score is very good, you have a card with a very high credit limit (greatly increases your chance of being approved and for a high limit), and you have zero or low balances. You have an excellent chance of being approved for the Citi Mastercard that pays 1% to 5% cash back ($300 annual cap) and no annual fee. Their web site is www.citicards.com. Go for it and good luck.

Sounds good. I'll see whats up.

Well the reason I dont like the other cards is because like capital......they gave me a low limit. About half my amex costco. Dont want it. I have a macys and chevron card with nothing on it. I use it and pay it off.

I just want to have 2 - 4 cards. I honestly want to get the black card and by the way Im spending haha. I think I might.

Thanks for the advice guys.

Did they give you a reason for such a high APR? what terms did you sign up for as far as the spread on the APR?

They didn't give me a reason for the high APR. They told me I was denied for the Prime Rate card because length of credit history was not long enough. Which I guess I can understand because I only show a student loan and car loan that are over 10 yrs. on my CR. Credit card history is a little over 4 yrs. They wouldn't lower the rate because they said they wanted to see what my payment history would be with them first . I kinda thought that was one of the reasons we have CRA's .

The APR spread on the Platinum card is between 12.65% to 23.25%

Just a procedural note: activating the card is different from activating the account. Your account is active the moment you receive your account number. You can immediately start using the account for telephone and internet purchases whether or not you have received the card. Activation of the card merely says that you have successfully received it and can use it as another means for charging purchases to the account.

Wells Fargo Credit Card Offer

Guest: jeff94553
Post subject: Wells Fargo Credit Card Offer
Posted: Sat Jun 24, 2006 1:39 am

I recently applied for a W.F. Prime Rate Card-Denied
They sent me a Platinum card w/ 5000 CL
However the APR is 22.10%
My credit scores range between 734-747 (No negatives).
I have not activated the card. Now I am wondering what I should do.

Should I keep the card and not use it or just close the account or just not activate the card. Called C.S. and they refused to lower the rate.

Thanks,
Jeff

By the way this card "accidentally" ended up in the shredder!

There's no fee for the card, so there's no reason not to keep it. Some day WF might offer you a good offer on it. Keep it. Can't hurt you, might help you.

I have my two main checking accounts and a savings account at WF. I've had those accounts for 12 years now. When I applied for this card three years ago, I was turned down flat. Made no sense to me then or now. Go figure!

dont worry about the shredder. Call them up and tell them it has a faulty magnetic strip and need a replacement card.

It doesn't sound very "Platinum", does it?

I just got recently got a WF card from a pre-approval mailer. It's prime + 6.9% (14.65). I mainly just got it for the 9 months of 0% promo, though.

Doesnt have info. on the discover website yet on what the "auto" portion of this will be, but when they had the "get more" promotion, it was only on specific auto retailers....and didnt include any of my local chains that I use. If it includes all auto purchases, this will be at least warm..

Actually, I have to amend my original post about $2400 per year.

I thought the 5% was unlimited, but I discovered (no pun ) that my Discover gas card is currently paying 5% only up to the first $1500 in gas purchases, after which it drops to 3%, and then it drops again at some point (not sure) to 1%. I hadn't been checking the statements lately, but now I see that I hit the 3% tier on the last billing cycle. I started earning rewards in April 2005, but then the clock was reset again on my anniversary date in September 2005.

Thanks for the tips on other cards. I'll have to check them out.

Discover Gas Credit Card to Limit Rewards to First $1200

Guest: glenn21
Post subject: Discover Gas Credit Card to Limit Rewards to First $1200
Posted: Sun Jun 25, 2006 8:55 am

First post here. Nice site.

Sorry if this information has already been discussed. I didn't see it on a search.

I make most purchases with a Chase Amazon.com VISA card. But I have been using my Discover card for gas purchases since April 2005, when I got an offer from them to convert my dormant Discover account to the Gas Card program. Since then I've used the card exclusively for gasoline. In the past 12 months I've made about $2400 worth of gas purchases.

I just got a letter from Discover, notifying me of changes to the Cashback Bonus Gas Card program to take effect in October. It will now earn the full 5% on the first $1200 in gas AND automotive purchases each year. Of course, they spin this as a great thing because now oil changes, automotive repairs, tires, etc., will all earn the 5%, but they downplay the fact that they are limiting it to $1200, which cuts the rewards in half for me.

It also says that all other purchases will earn up to 1%, including gas and auto maintenance purchases over $1200.

I guess I've been expecting that they would eventually limit this program. But ironically I found this site today via a link in this online newspaper story about how credit card programs are being improved lately:

post-gazette.com/pg/06176/700822-68.stm

It seems that the opposite is happening with Discover Gas Card, at least for me. Have others gotten this letter? Are there better alternatives I could pursue for gas purchases?

No, this wasnt posted here and a good thread to start. I am concerned that the auto. purchases will only be for select places (like the last "get more" promotion so I am not very excited about this.

There are a ton of cards that you can get 5% on gas (some are brand specific), but you should look at the Citibank cards including the dividend select....max of 300 in rebates per year (which if you used all on gas) would be 6000 in gas (and you can have multiple cards).

Yes, there are!

Chase has a rewards card but they're starting to phase out the program for new customers. Do a search and see if you can get on before it's too late. I especially like any deals involving a sign on bonus; I've heard of bonuses as high as $150! I only got $50 when I signed up Fatwallet.com also has huge on-going threads on this card.

Citibank's gas card ("Dividends"; 5% back on gas and grocery purchases) is still going strong, as far as I know. I haven't heard too much about any sign on bonuses for this card, although I have gotten $100 on two seperate occasions for signing up for two other Citi cards.

I really am quite thrilled to hear about Discover's expanded gas card. I wonder if they'll still give it to new customers? I didn't apply because I don't need a new gas card, however, it would be nice to get 5% back on any car repairs, impulse car purchases from Advance auto, etc.

Uh, are you folks really reading what was said? Your 5% on repairs/gas is limited to $1200 IN PURCHASES per year. In other words, you can get at most $60 back per year at the 5% rate. Cards like the Chase and Citi cards give you up to $300 or $600 back per year...

Has anyone been rate-jacked for utilizing less than 50% on a chase card? I did a BT to Chase two months ago, got up to about 45%, and then got silly and made purchases on the card, which brought up the utilization to just under 50%. Is there any danger?

I realize this is a repost, but I feel this topic merits its own discussion...

I just called the Power Rewards Center at 1-888-434-2232, and they told me they will indeed be phasing out BOTH the 30,000 point reward (for $450 statement credit, 1.5% cash back), and the 50,000 point reward (for $1,000 statement credit, 2% cash back). She did not know when the phase out will occur, which is disappointing because I specifically asked her, "so, possibly by the end of this year?" She did not know.

Anyway, she said the highest cash back reward would be 20,000 points for a $200 statement credit, only 1% cash back. This officially makes this card not worth your time. It really is too bad. I am now not going to be applying for this card as I originally planned.

Chase Cash Plus or Citi Dividends Credit Card?

Post subject: Chase Cash Plus or Citi Dividends Credit Card?

Is it Chase Cash Plus or Citi Dividends that you can get rewards for gift certificates that they offer and it doesn't count againt your 300.00 per year cash back limit? I can't remember, but want to say it's the Citi card. I reached my limit of 300.00 on the Chase card so started using the Citi card, but have a purchase of about 3,000 that I'll be making later in the week, but since that's more than I wanted to pay off in one month, I was thinking of putting it on my Chase card because I still have a 0% interest rate on it until Sept. I only want to do that if I can get some type points or something toward a gift certificate with Chase though.
Thank in advance.

Pretty sure the Chase Cash Plus has a 300 yearly limit for all media.

I hear it's the Rewards Plus which has like $150 extra for gift cards.

Don't know about the Citi policy, sorry.

With the Citi Dividends card, it is $300 maximum cash back on purchases with the card in everyday life. However, if you make purchases through their Citi Merchants Network website, then there is no maximum cash back. That is, you can earn more than $300 per calendar year, but anyone over $300 has to be purchases from the Citi Merchants Network website.

With Chase Cash Plus, it is $300 maximum cash back per calendar year.

With Chase Rewards Plus (which may or may not still be available) it is $600 maximum is cash back and $150 in gift cards. That is, $750 maximum per anniversary year but only $600 can be in cash, the rest must be in in gift cards. That's probably why Chase is phasing it out. Much too generous of rewards. Even if they lower it to $300 in cash and $450 in gift cards, the choice of gift cards is such that I'm sure I can find a store that I frequent -- I can't go wrong with JC Penney and Bed, Bath, and Beyond.

No idea. I simply found the original link didn't work and corrected it.

Looks like the best rate is P+4.9%. Kinda par for the course, aside from the reported high limit approved.

HSBC purchased Metris Companies along with the miserable sub prime Direct merchants bank. Hopefully they will be able to restore the tarnished image of this bank. From what I viewed from the website, it looks as if they have significantly improved on this card. I wonder if they got rid of the Dream Card.

Pulled report. 706. Closed immediatley Now I'm getting pre approvals daily for 0 percent until october 2007, at 8.9 fixed. I WILL NOT APPLY!

You ask them why they wanted to up your rate to the universal default?

Personally, I would of paid them off then put them aside just to keep the good tradelines.

Absolutely right! You tell 'em! They must be scared out of their minds over the fact that you've closed your high interest accounts and won't apply for low interest cards. Forget about the money you're losing; just stick to your principles!

You do realize that those offers just come from the marketing department, based on a very easy pre-aproval model. They have no knowledge of your previous history. they just spam everyone and their dog who has a cedit score over the thresh-hold.

just because a bank ratejacks you (which Chase is the worst from what i have seen and heard). thats no reason to jeopardize your credit score. Closing your accounts does nothing but hurt you personally. The banks can care less. they just want you to pay them buckets of interest or move your credit somewhere else. Also, If you close your account with Chase. even if there may possibly (not likely) be a lower rate in the future, once it is closed, they WILL NOT lower the interest rate. Thats just something to think about

I just received a Bank of America Power Rewards Visa in order to buy points and get a 2% rebate but their website does not list the 50,000 points/$1000 reward level. The highest amount listed on the site is 20,000 points/$200 reward. Is the $50,000 level no longer offered?

According to past threads, you have to call to get it. But Curtis just posted that he heard from a CSR that they are pulling it end of the year.

Its in bold letters on every application that gets sent out.

It informs consumers about the right to choose not to receive future prescreened solicitations and specifies a toll-free number for consumers to call to exercise that right (1-888-5-OPTOUT). Consumers may choose to opt out for five years or permanently, and may opt back in at any time by calling the same number.

Chrysler Rewards Visa Credit Card Offer

Just wondering if anyone has any experience or knows anything about it. I keep getting offers in the mail, but they don't do a very good job of explaining how much of a reward you actually get.

It says that with every dollar charged on the card, you obtain one point,,,and you get five points for every dollar charged at a dealership. It says you can redeem these pointsfor Dealer Dollar Certificates, which you can use to buy or lease a new Chrysler product. It fails to mention the cash value of these so called points though.

ok, just found it. Doesnt look like the greatest deal, every point acquired would be the equvilant of a penny. You can trade in 1000 points toward a ten dollar dealer certificate.

Just wondering, what if i paid all my bills,,,mortgage, utilities, taxes,,etc with this card and paid the balance in full every month. Would that work to acquire these points?

I have this card, I agree it's not the greatest percentages cash back.
but it's kinda fun when your buying a car and you've just finished
breaking down your salesman for the very best price you can get,
then you hand him $200 or $300 dealer dollars.
just to see the confused look on his face. They have to take them,
they are just like handing them cash.

I charge any oil changes & repairs on the card at Chrysler Dealers,
for the five points, and I pay my cable bill on it for the single points,
just to keep something going on the card. and pay it off each month.

This used to be run through Chrysler itself, now it is run through
Bank of America. who hasn't really changed it that much.

Convert Secured Bank of America Credit Card to Unsecured Account

Guest: caligirl
Post subject: Convert Secured Bank of America Credit Card to Unsecured Account
Posted: Thu Jun 29, 2006 6:55 pm

Hi all,

I am in the process of rebuilding my credit. I have two secured cards, one with a 2200 limit (First Premier 2.5 yrs old) and one with 2500 (B of A 4 months old). I opened the B of A Secured because FP is terrible to deal with! I also have a Cap One with an 800 limit. My FICO is now up to 668 and has been rising pretty steadily. However, I'm wondering when is a good time to apply for an unsecured card. I know it doesn't JUST come down to FICO, but I don't want to apply too early and get declined. I need a higher limit card to make my business travel (no corporate cards) more relaxed. I am always worred about where my balances are and which card I should use at check-in which isn't a good feeling.

I PIF each month and try to pay balances down before the statement date to keep my utilization low. Last month, I forgot to do that on one card so I expect a jump into the 670s within the next few weeks.

I keep an eye on the Approval reports, but the scores seem all over the place. Does 680 or 685 sound like a good time? Obviously, I just want to apply for one card and hopefully get approved with a decent limit. No need for unnecessary inquiries.

Thanks! Any guidance would be appreciated!

BOA is a nice card issurer and if you ask they will probably either convert your secured card to an unsecured or issue you a new unsecured card at a lower credit limit. Once you get approved, I recommend closing the First premier due to their very high fees and poor service even if doing this will drop your credit score slightly.

Thanks fire3000. My plan is to try to convert the FP to an unsecured even if it is at a lower limit. It's my oldest card, so I will probably keep it around for a while and just not use it.

B of A generally begins Secured to Unsecured reviews at the 9 month mark which is November for me. Not sure if I could make a request prior to that. Since I also have a checking account there, maybe I will talk to them later this summer.

Thanks.

Interest Rate Hike on my Chase Credit Card

Has anyone been rate-jacked for utilizing less than 50% on a chase card? I did a BT to Chase two months ago, got up to about 45%, and then got silly and made purchases on the card, which brought up the utilization to just under 50%. Is there any danger?

I guess you meant 'more than'... Anyway, as long as you stay under 50% you should not worry about ratejacking, even though your FICO score will be dinged a bit.

Why would you be rate jacked by Chase for carrying over 50% on THEIR card? Am I missing something here?
