Capital One Mileage Credit Card Changes

Guest: tanya
Post subject: Capital One Mileage Credit Card Changes
Posted: Mon Apr 24, 2006 4:41 pm

I wanted to share my Capital One experiences with all of you. We have their mileage card, had it for years. The conditions were that you can get on mile for every dollar you spent, up to $10k/month. You then can purchase an airline ticket and get reimbursed with the formula equivalent to an 1 1/4% rebate. So, for instance, you used to have to spend $50,000 to get 500 miles and could purchase a $625-ticket with these miles. They have now changed it (and never cared to inform us) to where you need to spend much more to get the same ticket. And it is now on a sliding scale. In addition, they are very uncooperative and don't allow you credit line increases. Possibly, they don't like us because we are so called "dead beats", we pay our card off every month. Think twice before getting this card.

Cap 1 and their CL increases (or lack there of ) is legendary around here.

Certainly, as far as prime cards go, I am sure you could find a better deal than the Cap 1 Mileage card.

That being said, the agreements on any card say they can change the rewards/ card benefits at any time. Cap 1 isn't the only CC comp that has done this to the chagrin of many a poster here.

How is being so judgemental supposed to help them get their credit back on track? Things happen... Life happens. One never know what type of situation may make one be unable to pay their bills on time...(medical, unemployment, etc)

Harping about it is no help to anyone. We are supposed to be here to provide help and advice, not bring each other down.

Good Day.

Bully,

Easier said than done at times. Even someone who avoids BK and gets charge-offs paid off faces getting a card like this for at least some stretch of time before qualifying for a better card.

I used to get these kind of offers alot. If the OP gives it time she'll gets offers for similiar cards that aren't quite as bad. I would suggest Orchard as the fees are better and the terms bcome bette with time and good record.

Although the cc comps would have you believe otherwise, most peopel in credit trouble are not out to cheat cc companies out of money - they hit hard times. yes, many are still guilty of poor planning but they arent in general people looking to screw their creditors. Losing a job or a medical problems in ones family is quick ticket to credit troubles and not being able to pay bills on time....

I would suggest considering an unsecured option. When i was having a hard time finding credit due to little credit history i got approved for an Orchard bank VISA with a 59.00 annual fee and a 300.00 CL (but no 99.95-129.95 processing fees) and CapitalOne with a 39.00 annual fee and a 500.0 CL. Since they won't waive their annual fees i plan on dumping both of these cards now less than 6 months later because i've been accepted for much better cards since my 3 scores have all gone up over 700. But i would recommend them as a way to get your foot in the door and then apply for better ones in a few months.

Good Luck.

orchard or maybe cap 1

both wil get you started on secred cards that can graduate to unsecured cards.

Cap 1 worked well for me and the terms werent all that bad.

edited to add:

Your scores are not all that horrible. resist the urge to get more than one sub prime card. Just pick one - pay on time perfeectly. in about a year/maybe less get a store card. I;m sure not long after that you can be close to qualifying for a prime card. The key is - no mistakes. I m at 56 months and you can be there too before long!

HSBC Platinum Credit Card with 0% APR and No Annual Fee

Ok, you guys with incredible cards and 25k limits are going to laugh at me, but whatever, i'm happy cause today, i decided to try out one more of my pre-approved mailers.
This time form HSBC Platinum card, and OMG, i got approved. 0% Int. Rate for 12 months, NO ANNUAL FEE (its like music to my ears), $1000 credit limit!
Now i am not going to apply for anything else till next year June when i will apply for refinance on my current vehicle loan (from Chase Manhattan at 7.49%), and apply yet again for an Amex card. Hopefully with on time payments and keeping my utilization below 10%, i'll be in the 700 club by then too!!!!!!!!!!

I suppose the nickname shortstop was also confusing.

I play softball and wear number 7 and i have a crush on the Yankee shortstop, hence the name.

The fee for late payments should not be a factor. You WILL NOT be late.

I see no mention that this Umb Bank can turn into an unsecured card. That is a nice benefit and a way of showing you how your credit is improving.

I'd still go Orchard or Cap 1.

Credit Card Offer with Rewards for New Tires?

Post subject: Credit Card Offer with Rewards for New Tires?
Posted: Tue Apr 25, 2006 11:06 am

replacing my windows and I have 2 flat tires nowe...lol Of course I should have looked in the driveway, but the point is that I need to buy 2 tires, so I might as well buy 4. I'm going to get Goodyear Regattas, but what I'm wondering is, are there any cards that give rebates for tires from a tire store? Goodyear has thir own card, but it's so limited in scope and I have a Prius sothaty won't do 90% of maintenance that I need done on the car. Only Toyota can do that.

So, are there any cards that will give the maximum reward for tires?

Goodyear is giving a 20 dollar gas card with tire purchase and if I were to get their card I'd get $40 in gas, but is that worth a hard inquiry and having ANOTHER card in my possesion? I'd like to pare a few down! lol
