Pre-Approved for Chase Credit Card?
Guest: rchurchman Post subject: Pre-Approved for Chase Credit Card?Posted: Mon Mar 13, 2006 5:14 pm Saturday I received a pre-approval letter from Chase for a Platinum. I applied online last night and the system said that I would receive my decision in the mail. Well today, I received an email saying "welcome to chase, etc, etc. Does this mean I was approved? I called the 800 number and it said it was still pending. It wasn't one of those phishing emails requesting my info. So whats the deal with people experience? Might not be the one you applied for, though. On your pre-approval letter there should be a 888, or 800 telephone number. If you dial that number and select #2 when the recording comes on. It should say check the status of application, type in your social security number. It will tell you if you were approve or not. If you do not have the 888, or 800 telphone number you can call this number 888-815-4582 select #2. New Terms for Discover Credit Card
Guest: stevejk Credit Expert (100+ Posts) Post subject: New Terms for Discover Credit CardPosted: Tue Mar 14, 2006 9:08 am I received the new terms and conditions for my Discover card in the mail yesterday. I don't have it in front of me now, so I can't list all the changes. However, there is one change that will definitely affect me starting in April 2006. They are changing the date of the automatic payment. Normally, they withdraw funds from checking on the payment due date. Now, they will withdraw funds ten (10) days before the due date. They're going to sit on my money for ten days, earning interest for them before applying it to my account? What a crock! I believe they say that this is only for those of us who PIF each month. Maybe I need to switch to auto pay only the minimum and use Yahoo's free bill pay -- they withdraw funds on the day the payment is [allegedly] received -- for the balance. But then again, I only use Discover for restaurants so the monthly payment is not as large as on my main CCs. What a crock! Uh, it's not YOUR money--it's Discover's money. If it's a minimum payment, then it's only a tiny part of the balance on your card--and the entire balance is money you've borrowed from Discover. I'm sure that Discover will credit your card with the proceeds on the day that happens, so if you ARE carrying a balance the interest on that tiny portion (1%? 2%) of what you owe will stop on that day. You can always NOT use its automatic system if you prefer. But don't forget it isn't your money. Really. It isn't. How easy it is to forget that! _________________ Polonius "Neither a borrower, nor a lender be; For loan oft loses both itself and friend" CardRatings.com is the most comprehensive source for comparing credit card offers.   Please visit CardRatings.com to view the best rated credit cards! Guest: Cathy Posted: Tue Mar 14, 2006 11:31 am Unfortunately, Discover is not a card I can reccomend. Long story made short is I've had a change in financial circumstances and will be moving soon. I called them to inform them of this and to work something out payment-wise since I can't keep up with the payment (which was raised) that my former debt management company set up a long time ago. They told me my account had to be past due before they could change anything! Still not sure what I'm going to do just yet though I'm considering a few different options including paying them what I can and hope for the best. It's not what I want but once I get moved I may not have a choice because other expenses will be going up. They could only handle direct transfers for other credit cards but the bottom line is that I used a balance transfer check to buy a Ford F-350 for 0% and then transferred that 0% loan to another credit card at 0% a month before it ran out. Bank of America Power Rewards Credit Card
Guest: quiznut1 Post subject: Bank of America Power Rewards Credit CardPosted: Mon Mar 13, 2006 2:36 pm It was previously discussed in this forum about the Bank of America Power Rewards Visa credit card, a card that offered a $1,000 statement credit at 50,000 points (1 point for every dollar you spend). This is a 2% cash back rate, but with the MBNA/Bank of America merger, it was under some suspicion that the 50,000 point reward for $1,000 was going away. The removal of the reward from this website also seemed to confirm that: Bank of America Power Rewards Visa Platinum However, after placing 3 calls to the Power Rewards Center in the span of about 3 weeks, which is the very number that customers of this card must call in order to redeem their rewards, the representative's answer has been the same. This 50,000 point reward for a $1,000 statement credit is not going away. The representative has told me each time as well that the reasoning for the removal of the 50,000 point reward from the website above, is that customers are now required to CALL to request this reward. This 50,000 point reward is no longer redeemable online, as well as the 35,000 point reward for $600 (1.5% cashback). I also asked if there was any chance the 50,000 point reward would be going away in the near future that had anything to do with the merger, or any other reason, and they have consistently told me no. This means now that this card is still available at a 2% cash back rate if you can earn 50,000 points in 5 years, at a rate of 10,000 points per year (because the points expire after 5 years), 1 point for every dollar you spend. I am definitely thinking of applying for this card when I get out of school. Best Rewards Credit Card (cont'd.)
Guest: Polonius SENIOR MEMBER (Member for 2 yrs.+) Post subject: Best Rewards Credit CardPosted: Wed Mar 15, 2006 4:25 pm Thank You! Rewards is a Citibank product. How worthwhile any non-cash rewards program is depends on what you get for the rewards--and that can change at any time. Right now, 5,000 Thank You redemption points will get you a $50 Shell gas card or various other $50 cards, so each rewards is worth a penny if you regard that "same as cash." (But you can get those Shell gas cards for $40 in various ways, so I'd say a Thank You! rewards point is worth $.008 each ($40 for 5000). So 5 rewards points for each dollar of spending is great--that works out to 5% or 4% return on each dollar you spend. I am looking for a new credit card with the best rewards program. I spend average of abouot $1,000 month, always pay in full each month, and have excellent credit rating. I am not too partial about whether the rewards are in cash back, or points, or ?. I have been reading and comparing for a couple of months, but since it's not comparing apples to apples, it's hard for me to know. Some offer points, some rewards, some cash, etc. So far, I have been interested in the ones that offer a $100 gift card after your first use of the card. But I also believe the phrase, "if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is." Also, I have been reading on another web site "Rip Off Report," and some of the card companies seem less than desirable. From what I read, I seem to be leaning towards Citi. What do you think?
