I have had a MC fm orchard for several years @ a $59 annual fee. Today, I received a notice that they are increasing my annual rate to $99 based on my credit info. i will definately be inquiring about that. My question is, however, if I already paid an annual fee in Nov 2005, how can they charge me another annual fee as soon as August 2006 - 3 month prior to the end of what I have already paid for!?

I don't know, have you tried calling customer service to talk to them about the early charge.

Annual fee means just that Annual. This bank has questionable practice across the board since the takeover. The least of which not being the interest rate increase across almost all their lines of up to 7% for no good reason. I would contact Cs and let them know that this fee was paid 9 mos ago and that it isn't due for another three months. You have, in essence, prepaid for the use of this card. New T&Cs should take effect after that period. In the meantime, I would try to get credit with someone else if possible.
I was complacent having the Household Master card but got angry when I was rate jacked. I hadn't applied for any other cards in the three years since I had been with them and was surprised to get a very good offer. So it was bye bye HSBC.
