Citi Diamond Rewards Credit Card Review

Post subject: To all you who recently got a Citi Diamond Rewards card...

I got this card in January. I thought that Citi's standard policy was that the initial 0% BT offer is good if the first transfer is initiated within 12 months of the account opening date (that was the case with my Dividend card). Anyway I was planning on waiting til November when I would pay back the BT I have on my Dividend card. Then I was going to initiate a BT on my Diamond card (after reallocating most of the Dividend limit) and stick the funds back into savings.

However, I wrote Citi yesterday to find out exactly what day my 12 months to initiate the trasfer would be up. Turns out with the offer I received in the mail, the 12 months at 0% was only good if the first transfer is done within 90 days . As fate would have it, yesterday was my 90 day mark. I went to the BT section of their website to see if I could still get a transfer going but the 0% offer was conveniently gone and had been replaced by a 6.9% offer which is worthless to me .

I know from reading the board that several of you just got this card and it sounds like some people might have responded to the same offer I did. Although the Diamond offer on Citi's website gives you 12 months it looks like some of the mailed offers only gave you the three months.

I am sorely disappointed because had I read the offer closer I would have realized the mistake. This offer also extended the 0% to 15 months if $100 was charged to the card before the 90 day deadline which I'd done. It is unfortunate because had I known I could have paid off my Dividend card, reallocated limits, done the Diamond transfer and had more money in the bank earning me interest for another 15 months instead of the small amount I have til Nov. from my Dividend card.

Anyway it is my own fault, I should have been more careful, hopefully someone else can avoid making the same mistake. I will most likely cancel this card now, I really have no use for it once I redeem the rest of the points. It is my lowest limit (although coolest looking card) and I never use it since I prefer cash back to points.

maddy is there somewhere in the terms and conditions it talks about the offer? I looked briefly but the only place I saw anything was in the original offer they sent me in the mail.

Well, I applied off of the citi website, so those terms are there and I also have the insert that came attached to the card that has the same terms
