(1) It wouldn't hurt to send a certified letter to the manager's attn at Amex Credit Card Operations explaining what happened years ago and that you would like another chance to prove your creditworthiness. Chit happens.

Advice like this is tantamount to encouraging Barry Bonds to speak out on the benefits of steroids and pugnacious attitude in Baseball.

Sending a lame letter like this to Amex will gain you one of two outcomes: the harmless one is they’ll use it in lieu of toilet paper, the more serious outcome is they’ll come after you again through third parties for your misguided audacity. _ Wow, a “certified” fiddle tale at that too.

What da fart is so special about Amex any how? Most of their cards are PIF and have annual fees. Everything they’ve to offer in the rewards dept can be matched and exceeded by Visa, MC and Discover at lower costs. Try usin’ Amex out of the country and endure surcharges along with hysterical laughs at ya.

And Citibank? Good memory? Citibank has the memory of Ronald Reagan during the Iran – Contra scandal. Paleeeeease! Default with Citi yesterday and they’ll give you 2 cards tomorrow, they’re senile.

But Amex and Macy’s will remember your grand grand children.

Well "Dear" it worked for me when I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis while working as a court reporter and was behind with Amex for a few years. I am proud to say I have a $10,000.00 credit limit with CitiAmex now and a Preferred Amex Gold Rewards card with no limit because I was "too chicken" to ask them to give me a chance to prove my creditworthiness again. I have no argument with you nor I'm sure Barry Bonds and Citibank could care less about your opinions either. What's that? You have a beef with Citibank? As if they care!! LOL Do nothing and your result will be nothing!!!

I’d like you to call me “dear” from now on, makes the board all the more tender.

Very well then, if the action you propose bears fruit, let the belated letter writing begin after 10 years of neglect. My bad.

I’ve one slight observation though, for someone who worked in a learned medium, your comprehension skills don’t do your past vocation justice.

Read my above post again, and tell me where I implied I have a problem with Citibank. To the contrary, I love Citibank, they never punish you when you’ve faced past hardships. They’ve a short memory as aforementioned.

What’s that? That is the problem with your comprehension “dear”.

No past vocation here. Still among the ranks. See there are people who will allow you to come back whether credit cards or employment.

Yes you are right.....Citibank does allow you chances just like Amex. There was something positive in your post. I just overlooked it.

Hey Joy Joy,

Did Amex ask you to pay off the old balance you had before they gave you a gold card.

I know someone (My sister) in a similar situation as you, but she was involved in a car accident 13 years ago and defaulted on her Amex along with everything else. She has regained her credit with Visa & MC, but has never even tried to approach Amex.
They keep sending her gold card invitations to apply by mail, but she does not apply because she feels she will open a can of worms.
