i defaulted on a green amex card some 10 yrs or more ago. anyone know how long you stay on the black list. i applied for a card recently and was told that i had a card before with a balance left on it. Is it any use trying to pay a token payment to them to close this off their list? if i did this then would this set me back from getting a card and if so for how long. This account is no longer even showing on my credit file.

Do you know anyone who has an Amex card who would allow you to become an authorizer user on their card?
The Statue of Limitations has passed on that old Amex card. Some say go back and pay it and some say you will stir up old charges by paying the balance and that you will cause the Statue of Limitations to start again. Amex have charged it off as a bad debt.

no no i know its been charged off which is the point, amex doesnt report it to the burreaus any longer, but when you apply they know on their internal systems that you have defaulted on an old card and they decline you again. so unless you get off their INTERNAL black list you never will get another card from american express. any idea how long this list hangs around within amex?
