Change Your Credit Card Payment Due Date

I received one of those "limited time" BT offers from Chase today. I can do a balance transfer at 0% with a $75 fee until "the first day of your billing cycle that includes September 1 2006." But, darn it, my billing cycle ends on the 2nd of each month, so I would have to pay back the loan in full before August 2nd.

Then I had a thought. I went online and looked at my account. I found an option to change my payment due date, which is the 22nd of each month. Well, if the 22nd produced a statement closing date of the 2nd of the next month, then changing it to the 20th should produce a closing date before the 1st of the month. I changed the date online to the 19th just to allow a bit of leeway.

So I should be able to PIF this transfer on August 30th, giving me almost another full month of free money.

You can probably do the same with your payment due dates--change then to a date useful to you for such offers. It will take a month or two for the dates to kick in, by the way, so you can't use this method to postpone a current due payment...

COOL idea, guy! Nice thing is that there's no rush so long as you change the due date no later than a couple of months before your promotional rate is due to expire.

Cool, but how many companies will let you change the payment date?
