My cousin has the above card, and he told me that they are canceling the program for current cardholders as of 6-13-06.

Also, they no longer issue the card, but I am surprised that current cardholders are going to be converted to a standard Discover Platinum cashback card as of 6-13.

Did anyone know that?

Man, this sucks. I've gotta do some more research for another restaurant card...my statements close on the 23rd of the month, so my program will be canceled on the 23rd of June. Looks like I'll be jumping on the bandwagon of another restaurant card...any suggestions from anyone are welcome.

To all the current Discover Restaurant cardholders:

Here is my plan for my future use of this card, and I think this is the best way to make use of a bad situation. If you're concerned about your restaurant rewards going to waste (as rewards are only redeemable in $20 increments), don't worry.

I called Discover and they told me that the April-June "Get more" promotion category is going to be Gas and Automotive. This means you'll earn 5% cash back on those purchases, and if you're like me, you'll easily spend $400 (5% of that is $20) in 3 months on gas.

If you hold a Citi Dividend Platinum Select card (as I do), you won't be earning any less cash back (5%) with the Discover card during this "Get more" promotion, then you typically would with the Citi card.

What you do with the card after that is up to you, I might cancel mine, but don't want to lose credit history, affecting my score.

I have the home improvement card which will also disapear. I will probably convert 1 of my cards to the gas card and use it enough for the 20 bucks and use it for bt offers.

Guess I'll need to buy the restaurant gift cards at the grocery store (5% cash back at grocery stores) once my restaurant rewards go away. Yeah, that sucks. Oh well, it was a good thing while it lasted.
