Credit Card Transaction Time Limit

Hi

Is there a maximum time limit that a merchant has to process a card transaction in?.... or can they just wait and process/bill the customer anytime? (not sure why they would want to be slow processing it but, anyway..)

I thought it would be something like that

Ive just had something appear on my latest c/card bill for a transaction from May 2005 - 9 months ago!.... Id completely forgotten about this particular item untill now, and the amount thats now appeared isnt what I remember it as anyway.
