Are there any circumstances where Citibank will extend the 5 points for supermarkets / drugstores / gas stations and 1 point for everything else past the first 12 months ? I would get the card if it was permanent.

Signature, why must the offer be permanent to interest you? Get the card, enjoy it while you can--there's no fee for it. When the offer expires, you can ask for it to be extended, throw it away, keep it for a better offer...and apply for other similar cards. All terms on these cards can change at any time. And there will always be special offers of one kind or another.

Get the card and enjoy for a year then.... call Citi and ask fo them to convert this card to Citi Dividend Platinum Select Card. The Dividend card has simular rewards except you get cash back not points.

The same card advertised on our site does go beyond 12 months. In fact, I have never heard of this card offering the reward point structure you desribe for only a year.
