Good idea frost. I will make this thread sticky. Should be interesting. Would also encourage everybody to post reviews of their cards in our popular consumer reviews section here (great place to read card reviews too):

Sounds like GMAC has a black list, meaning no matter how good your credit is today, they will still denie due to having been included in bankruptcy in the past.

There are a few creditors just like that. Will look around and see if anyone knows of a expiration date on their black list if one exists. Sometimes if a given period of time has past they may let you back in... and then others it is black listed for life.

I'm not sure if this applies but I had requested for this account, closed for 2 years, to be reopened. It was initally denied due to a collection account on file, which was removed after dispute. Advised Citibank of the removal, expected them to check Transunion again, but instead they checked Equifax.

Instant Online Decision

Postby fenster » Sun Dec 26, 2004 6:47 pm

Anyone knows what kind of applicant gets an instant online approval with a clearly stated credit line? It can't be only high scores, I've had high scores and still got the "we received your app and will contact you by US mail in 4 weeks" online message.

I was approved several times, but not instantly. So what holds them back from instant approval? Telephone not in one's name? Wanting to verify home ownership? What? I know it's not employment, they hardly ever have the resources to check it along with income. Any idea gents?

fenster,

Thanks for your post and welcome to the board! I was under the impression that is was mainly your credit score. I know that there are security issues involved, but not sure what they are. Did you call them to inquire?

I would think if they seen any conflicting infromation between what you provided them and what is showing on the credit report they would stall the application for manual review.

Like if you put down one address, but they see another one as being reported the current address... if you give a po box instead of a home address...

then of course if they see any adverse information, collection, lates, high utilization, high number of inquiries in a short period of time...

It is numberous what it could be on the delay.

fenster,

Where did you find the 0% BofA online offer? I don't think they offer it on their website- at least last time I checked.

Also, out of curiosity, how did you find out about our website?

I work for BofA (not in financial or credit so I don't know much more than I am about to post... :) ) but this sounds like either the associate visa deal - only open to the employees, or one of the mailed solicitations. There are a few preapproval offers out right now that offer BTs at 0% till as far as out as Jan 06! Wish I had one of those!

Admin, it's my bad, I 'm mixing apples and oranges here, the 0% offer is on BTs only. I found out about your site while googling on the mechanics of BTs, and it was a great find at that. :D

Funny thing with Cap One. I have one of the cards allready. Have had for 4 years, payment all on time since I had it. Repeatdley asked for increase always told no. So applied for another one online. Noticed all three reports were pulled. Still turned down. Go figure. Will update for Citi. :)

Capital One has requested a copy of my pay stub. My pay went up over 2.5 times from 2003 to 2004. I have never had a Cap1 account but my wife has.

SEARS has given me "we will review" response. I had a SEARS account that I closed prior to my credit counseling for my VISA'S and MASTERCARD'S Credit Counseling. SEARS was paid but not kept open due to temptation. DISCOVER was closed as paid in full and doesn't even appear on my credit report anymore.

I carry a LOWE'S balance, never tried for HOME DEPOT since it is not a convenient location. BEST BUY (Household) denied me although I hold an Orchard Bank Card about 3 months ago.

I will not even try to apply for a CHASE.

I think that I will hold off on inquiries until April, but I wanted to submit this because Orchard and Target were so easy to get.

To All,

This is all great info. and is one of my favorite threads now!

Suggestion:

Please post your APR (interest rate) for each card. I think this would be very helpful to other consumers!

The only thing I had on my credit at the time of these approvals was a 2 paid off car loans in good standing, 1 car loan current but was 1 month late 1 year ago, 1 visa from my credit union, and 1 collection account in the amount of $455. What helped my credit score was that my visa from my credit union was 7 years old and never late it has a limit of $2,000 and an average balance of $600. And I had 2 inquiries. Hope All This Helped.

to fenster: re Instant Online Decision

Postby hdporter » Mon Jan 24, 2005 1:45 am

Had an interesting experience on my apps to Bank of Amer:

In my other post, I note a Gold applic in resp. to an invit, followed by a Plat. a couple of months later. At the time of the Gold invite, both my wife and I received the same invite and both applied online. Despite the fact that her score was about 20 pts. lower than mine, she received immediate approval; I was deferred and received mailed approval. When I responded to the subsequent Plat. offer I received instant online approval. Go figure.

Name of Institution: State Farm Bank Platinum card
Approved/Denied: APPROVED! Got the 7-10 day online notice, though.
Score: 675 (Providian TU FICO)
Credit Limit: $1000.00
CRA Pulled: TU
State of Residence: IL

Factors in this approval is the fact that I am a very long standing SF customer. Auto/Home/Umbrella/Flood ins.

There is a chargeoff on my report but the dates aren't reporting (it's 4.5 years old). Go figure.

How about adding annual income to this? It would be helpful in determining what banks are friendly to lower income ranges.

Residence Iowa, then likely it was Equifax that Citi Bank pulled for approval... please let us know once you confirm this.

This is our newest card. We have cards with about the same rates with credit limits of $2000,$2500, $2000, and $2000 again. 3 without annual fees and 2 with. We are post BK but rebuilding wisely.

Orchard bank has given us the biggest increase in credit line starting from 250.00 to 2500.00 (without asking for one). Capital one started us out at 200.00 now 2000.00. We dickered with Cap 1 for lower rates but no go. Im paying them off this month and am considering closing them. But I have to weigh the pro's and cons. They are ones with annual fees.

Also,we started out with a target guest card and after proving ourselves to them, they automatically upgraded us to a Target Visa.

score: 662
credit limit: $5,000
cra(s) pulled: Trans Union
state of residence: AZ
interest rate: Not sure. I asked the rep the limit.

I think Privacyguard's scores are WAY off sometimes. I don't think my TU credit warranted SUCH a low score. The other 2 bureaus are quite a bit higher. Apparently the score isn't all AMEX cares about. Not complaining though.
