Bankruptcy Friendly Creditors List:

Postby NightStar » Wed Jun 30, 2004 7:24 am

This is just a list put together by a friend, I was not able to link you direct to the original list, so I just brought it over... notes and all.

Clarifications: Listings based on earliest receipt of credit. Occasionally, something may appear to be listed twice. This results from the credit being somehow different, for example, secured and unsecured, credit limits, etc. PFB = Planet FeedBack

bankruptcy friendly credit cards

Postby elephant3823 » Mon Jul 26, 2004 11:45 pm

Thanks for the list. Am thinking about Capital One. May want to pay down Equity Line of Credit as my ratio to credit line high right now. They just sent me a Visa but do not know if will be reflected on credit bureau, since strictly tied into Line of Credit which expires in 2013. I am kind of gun shy and guess I want to track how well I continue to pay balances down. I am retiring in about 7 years at age 68, hubby is already retired. Not sure we need another bill/credit card right now until we pay his off which he very seldom uses. We just need to pay off the $800 he owes on that first and get a card in both our names?

If you ever need update on this list, the member who provided this her name is NanaC and she can be found at http://www.creditrepairfriends.com

Just because you get an extra card does not mean that you have to use it, like maybe chage $50 ever now and then to keep activity going.

Other option is to use your savings to open installment loan type of account with local bank or credit union... just make sure they report to all 3 credit reporting agencies for you. You can do a few like this, say $500 to $1,000 over a year for repayment, maybe two year repayment.

Yes utilization is important to the various credit granting companies out there.

Add MBNA to the unfriendly list. It states on the ap that you must not have any BKs on file.

Also,I am 2 years post BK and I got an auto loan thru Cap One auto finance for 7.95% 2 months ago.

Just thought you should know.

Bank of America Approval Post BK

Postby Nene » Fri Feb 04, 2005 9:14 am

First, I love this website! It has given me a tremendous amount of information, so thank you! :)

A few days ago, I received an invitation to apply for a BofA Platinum card. I get offers in the mail quite often but never from BofA. My BK was in 95 and was dismissed and still appears on my Equifax report (stays on for 10 years) but will go off this year. I repaid all my creditors and have made significant progress in rebuilding my credit. I verified a couple of days ago that my fico scores are Trans Union 646 Equifax 640 and Experian 679. Anyhow, I usually ignore these offers because I hate being turned down, and I had "never" really been offered one with no annual fees, and 0% APR on purchases and balance transfers for 6 months. I accepted online, put in the higher interest credit cards I wanted to transfer, and quietly waited for my rejection. Alas, it did not come. It approved me for $6000 credit limit and accepted my balance transfers. I actually applied for a BofA card about 6 months ago and was rejected flat out, so I was kind of stunned.

My BK was a regret and a hassle for years, but I am soooo glad all my hard work and patience is paying off. Good luck to all!

I am guessing it was Experian. That is who they checked before. I have recently monitored Trans Union and Equifax and when I applied before they do not show BoA as a company I applied for credit for. I am guessing, but it just makes sense.

That might not be the same credit bureau they pull on from person to person - a lot of these companies determine who to pull a report on based on their zip code location.

Like example would be Citi Bank, I know for a fact in Illinois they pull from TransUnion, because that credit bureau has headquarters out of Chicago, and they work this territory more then the other 2 bureaus... though Experian tries to give them a run for their money.

But if that same person was in Iowa applying with Citi, I would bet you the bureau they would pull from up there would be Equifax affiliate CSC Credit Services, because their people are stronger in that state.

There are companies that pull from particular bureaus for different reasons, not just territory, like if you go with Sallie Mae, they have always been dedicated to Equifax no matter where the person is. They just like the format of the reports better from there, I am sure they get some kind of kick back on cost as well then what the other 2 bureaus could compete on.

A good web site to check is called whopulledmycredit you can do a google search for them, it is a site dedicated to the reportings of many consumers from different states, showing what company pulled what on them.

Nightstar,

Thank you for that website. That is good to know. So, I guess it could have been Trans Union or Experian.

Thanks!

I just thought to add the original creator of this post, though she originally hails from artofcredit.com - I am betting the list they have is the most up to date on bankruptcy friendly creditors.

And whopulledmycredit was a site created by another board, creditnet.com

Also on the creditors, just because you know today that they pull from one company don't mean tomorrow they will pull that same bureau. Smaller businesses can be swayed by the credit reporting agencies to switch sides.

I worked short period for a reseller to Experian in Illinois territory, and we where always working hard to steal TransUnion customers, sometimes a bank would use one particular bureau just on the whim of a loan officer... branch manager, vice president,... so when people switched out of key positions, we would have a change in power and one might come in that like the other bureau better.

There were a few banks in a short 3 year period that we had successfully changed over to Experian, just a few months later to loose them back again, or vise versa. It was interesting, but exhausting with the paper work all the time.

Anyone able to buy a house after Ch 7?

Postby lucycbox » Tue Feb 15, 2005 9:21 am

We just had ours discharged in November, but we want to buy the house we are living in, in about 2 years. We will be first time home buyers. Anyone had any experience with being denied for a mortgage after Ch. 7? Hoping to start rebuilding our credit in the next month or two. Maybe APril before anyone will even look at us.

BTW, I just found out from my DH that his score is 571 (that is low!). I'm guessing mine is about the same. He's going to check it for me.

Sorry, didn't catch your question sooner -

With Bankruptcy, a creditor ususally wants the consumer to wait 2 years after filing to apply for loan. And in that 2 years, have established 2 or 3 accounts open (both credit card and installment loan).

They want to see 2 year payment history on these open accounts for something to base determination off of on loan approval.

Some lenders will use alternate stuff like back rental receipts, utilities and such.

You are right that the scores are low, but if you go for FHA / VA loans then them are not as score based as other conventional loans.

I know we have some loan officers floating around here - so if you create your own post with mortgage in the title of the post - I am sure you can attract them to answer questions for you.

bump

Update: I called BofA underwriting and confirmed that BofA will approve 7 years post BK-7 if you have re-established credit and utilization is low and scores are relatively good although I could not get a firm score range.

FWIW, MBNA "can" approve after 7 years but the criteria is tougher

The best way to rebuild credit is try to get one unsecured card and then in 6 months try to apply for more once you have been paying on time and such.....if you cannot get any unsecured cards, try for a secured or a department store card or gas card.

Wireless Industry

Postby slickytfox » Mon May 30, 2005 2:43 pm

Just wanted to let you know that the Wireless Industry, cellular phones and etc..., are generally favorable to bankruptcies that have been finalized and a judgment had been rendered.

In wireless, low validation or no credit report is seen as a flag and results in a max deposit. Late payments are not seen as a disqualification but charge-offs generally are.

The company I work for will not pull an additional credit report until 6 months have passed from the most recent pull. If your situation has changed dramatically since the last time you applied, request a new pull.

CarnivalSM Sea Miles® MasterCard® could be BK friendly. Could get approved online or do a reconsideration over the phone if you get denied. Its depends on the mood of the credit dept.

establishing credit after bk

Postby sunnybabies » Thu Aug 25, 2005 11:08 pm

You know you don't even have to wait 1 month after your bk to get in the mid 600's? Make sure when filing the bk, u keep at least one account open...preferrably one with the lowest balance and higest credit limit. So this will take care of your establishing credit after a bk...then you need to make 3 copies of your bk papers schedule d-g, 3 copies of your discharge paper, and 3 copies of a letter by you. Make sure in the letter you state your name, social security number, bankruptcy case number, current address and address at time of bk. A quick example letter:
Joe Blow
123 ABC Lane.
Somewhere, OH 12345 Case number 05-123sb4

To whom it may concern,

I am writing in regards to my recent bankruptcy. I have recently been turned down to credit due to accounts that have not been updated. I am requesting an update to my credit. I filed bankruptcy in 2003 under the name Joe Blow, ssn 000-00-0000, address at the time was 000 sunny lane, my current address now is 123 ABC Lane. My bankruptcy was discharged March 4, 2003 and my case number is 05=123sb4.
Please update my credit to show the accounts that were included in the bankruptcy. After you have completed the update, please contact me at (phone number here) and mail me verification that the update is completed. If you need any further information, please give me a call. Following this letter is my bankruptcy papers and discharge paper.
Sincerly,
(sign here)
Joe Blow (type name here)

Mail this to all 3 credit bureaus. The best method for mailing is ceritified mailing because they have to sign for it when they receive it and it is dated. They legally only have 30 days to update the credit, if not u have yourself a lawsuit. This is a more costly method, but may be worth it. You can also express mail it, costs a lot less and they receive it in 2 days, or you can reg. mail it.
You will receive all 3 letters back within 2-4 weeks and your scores will go up approx. 60-100 pts.
If you need anymore advice, contact me at sunny_babies@yahoo.com

One more thing!

Postby sunnybabies » Thu Aug 25, 2005 11:14 pm

I highly suggest that anyone who has had a bk in the last 10 years to do this. Only some creditors will show in bankruptcy, but most will not. They will not update themselves, u need to do it! I recently had a customer who filed 4 years ago and she is still being rated on accounts that were included in her bk, but showed still as collections, charge off, active, etc.... Her score was 525, I had her take my advice and she called me when she received letters back from all 3 bureaus stating her credit was updated. I then repulled her credit (u always want to do this after an update, to be sure it was updated correctly) anyways, I repulled her credit and she score in the low 600's. She is now able to buy a house with no money down.
P.S. If you need to know the addresses where to send each copy, I posted it on my re-establishing credit in the credit score forum. Or you may email me at sunny_babies@yahoo.com

My BK CH7 was on 6/16/05.
I'm cleaning my record as you say.
But just found a Charge Off dated 9/05 on my last credit record pull under account history.??? should this be there?
Experian seems to be hard getting things straight. might have to just call them up.

Need to contact that company and find out who they are collecting for, and inform them if that account has been included in bankruptcy that they should be reporting included in bankruptcy with a zero balance.

I understand that Citi, Amex & MBNA are not BK friendly. I have maintained accounts on excellent terms with them, never a late payment, and did not include them in my bankrupcty filing in '99.

Would they automatically reject me based on BK filing or would they consider the status of my current account & history?

Keep receiving offer for Citi(not pre-approved) that I want to accept but don't want to risk it if they would most likely turn me down. My cs is between 710-740.

American Express has a 20 year black list on people having filed bankruptcy. Least that is what I have heard others confirm. So I would say no to that one.

MBNA I just don't know about this company.

Citi Bank would be the best bet of the three to try with, I would think they would be more open then the other two.

Credit Card Repair

Postby Shantef » Thu May 04, 2006 2:32 pm

Hi, guys!

I just wanted to say how all of this information has helped me. I filed bankruptcy two and a half years ago. Up until a couple of months ago, I found out that some things appeared on my credit report after the bankruptcy. Anyway to make a long story short, I am trying to purchase a house, and my step-mother (mortgage processor) who works for AccuBanc told me to pay them off. I did, and my score went up. Now my score is 645. I saw that someone on the message board had around the same score and had gotten approved for a providian card. I just went to the providian website and was approved for $1500.00. All of you guys information has been very helpful. Thanks.

Add Amex Blue to the unfriendly list. They just denied me because of my bankruptcy, which has been discharged for almost three years in December.

American Express regardless of the card will be unfriendly to consumers having filed bankruptcy, you are black listed from applying until you repay the debt owed to their company (if having included them in the bankruptcy). Heard a few people say that 20 years would pass before they would get accepted for a new card.

I would advise going with a local bank or credit union for a secured installment loan or credit card. Make sure they report to all 3 credit reporting agencies. Also ask them if after a year you can get the account unsecured, some companies do that.

Wait for the credit score to rebound before going for major prime credit cards, you want over 680 range for the fair to good rates.

Hey Nightstar,

I never had an amex card, so are you saying that they will not consider me for a card because I filed bankruptcy, or are you saying that they won't consider me for a card because I owed them and entered them in the bankruptcy? Thanks for the info.

Both ways will get you blacklisted. Having owed past debt included in bankruptcy or just having filed bankruptcy on other creditors.

Yes, lots of people get approved, but generally they are not willing to take more risk than the average card issuer...

Just wanted to let you know that Raymour and Flanigan will only consider if your bankruptcy has been discharged for more than four years.

Washingtom Mutual gave me a card and so did Juniper better terms than Chase for credit that needs improvement. No annual Fee on either one and lower interest rates as well as 0% BTs for a year or BT/PURCH on JUniper for 6 mos.

Washington Mutual, the list above shows at 2 years you should be able to get an account with them with low 600 score.

I suggest you give it another 6 months see how much higher you can get your score up there, then apply.

WaMu will approve with a 615 TU how long out I can't say. I had a new derog (1mos prior and a discharge ch7) which since I've successfully had removed. So my score was about 60 points less than their last pull. Hopefully this will bode well for the CLI next month.

Fresh derogs hit hard.

Questions

Postby solrwind » Tue Dec 05, 2006 9:23 am

I'm sorry if this is a duplicate post, but when I posted the first time it didn't show up....

Hi,

I'm SO glad I found this website!! My BR is scheduled to be discharged 12/11. The problem is that I had a credit card application that I was going to mail after the discharge and my roomate mailed it yesterday!!
Will this cause problems for me? Is there anything that I can/should do?

One other question. I chose to keep the car that I bought, but my attorney has been very slow to send the reaffirmation paperwork back to the bank. I know they have to have it to file with the courts before my BR discharge. I signed it back in the middle of November, and as of last Wednesday they had not received it. When I called today they said that my attorney's secretary told them that it was mailed...What do I do? I've emailed and called my attorney, but he's very busy and it usually takes him almost a week to get back to me.
