Has anyone tried to convert to the Professional card that gives 3%?
I have the Discover Gas card which still has 5% but that caps you at $50 back per year.
What other cards are you guys using that give the 5% on gas?
I'm rather ticked. That 5% was the only reason for that card to be in my wallet.

It might not be the answer you want, but,
the Chase cash plus card (the one same as OLD citi dividend) is still offered at the Chase bank branch in my town.
If you have any branch around, walk into the bank and ask for the cash plus card brochure which has application form in the back.

The Citi Driver's Edge earns 6% for the first 12 months.
AmEx Blue Cash pays 5% after you reach $6500 in year-to-date spending (1% up to $6500 YTD).
The Citi Diamond Preferred Rewards MasterCard is also effectively a 5% back on EDP card for the first 12 months (but you earn ThankYou points).

I talked to CIti about it.
Well - they expanded the categories I can earn extra cash back in to include my utilies so for now I am stuck back at 2% on gas but also get 2% on new stuff. The net is close but I have to do a little more work to get it.
I have the Citi Diamond and have been working thier TY points to almost a 150 check so far.
The Chase Freedom card looks inviting. So does that Drivers Edge card. I think I ;ll wait till spring when My gas bills jump way up again so I can maximize those intro 6% cash back rates. (Hopefully they will still offer them)
In the end I think these rebates just mean they make way too much money to begin with.

No kidding. I racked up close to 275 bux in cash back on that 5% deal this year. Thats a few tanks of gas for free and that helps the old budget during my winter slow season.

i think i'll try to get one of my citi cards switched to drivers edge and then apply for the chase perfect card in may '07 - hopefully they will still be running the 6% deal for the first 90 days.

I got the Citi Drivers card last month. 6% on gas and groceries for 12 months, 3% after that. For a year, it's the best deal around.
I'll keep my Citi Div for utilities.
Hilton Amex is a decent deal for gas purchases if you could use hotel points.

Thats a good point about keeping the div card for utilities.
That would mean I would have to apply for my third CITI card if I go for the Drivers Edge.
You can see how someone with years an years of credit history can end up with 20 cards....

It was my 3rd Citi card. Besides Drivers, I have a Div and a PS.
I plan to reallocate my CL from my PS to the other two cards and close it.

Since you're in CT and i'm pretty sure you have HESS stations there, Chase has a HESS card that gives 5% back.

Well, first ly I hate the New York Jets and will forever now never buy gas at Hess.
But also, there just are not enough of them but if there were more (or I could plan around it) it is a good idea... I;ll have to think aboiut that one. Hey after all, I think the Hess' sold off the Jets...
