I don't get it. I've been a member for over 2 ½ years and have never posted a single spam, porn, or any other post that had to be deleted or moderated. Today I was responding to a request by one of the board administrators and the forum kept stopping my post because

"You are not allowed to post URLs until you have at least 25 posts".

I realize that I'm not being singled out, you're simply denying everyone based on nothing more than post count. Since I'm of the opinion that if I really don't have anything to add, simply posting in order to get my post count up is nothing but a waste of bandwidth and system resources. Although I got around it I have to admit it peeved me a little. I found this limitation purely by accident, I wonder how many other options are not available to me simply because I haven't artificially increased my post count. :(

Even my signature is not allowed in it's entirety. I guess I'm asking, what in the world did I do?

Sorry I use to not be that way, when we upgraded the board, it was a new feature. You can always post the link but space out the dot com.

Like http://www.bbb .com

That should allow you to post the link but the person would just have to delete out the space and still get to the link.

it's your forum, I was just trying to figure out what was up. There are many ways around this "feature", it just didn't make sense to me especially being a long time member. Getting around the "feature" wasn't really my question. I just don't understand why you would need it for long time members, I realize there are spambots and such, I get them too. But if your hand validating your new users like you say the post count thing is kind of irreverent isn't it?

Why are you censoring my signature? I realize the word H*E*L*L can be used in a bad way, but do you really consider my usage inappropriate? It's been our ministry tag line for years and like I said in another post, this is the ONLY place it's been censored.

Thanks for getting back to me, I hope you have a great new year!

The censor has been a feature of the old and new board. Curtis set that up. You can do the same thing with the word you want to spell. Just space the letters out. H e l l can still read it like that. I am just a member that happens to be a monitor. I don't actually approve new members, I just watch their posts and if they start spamming, then I remove them. My job here is contributing to posts, and moving new posts around when they are relevant to other sections.

I can always pass a message on to Curtis and see if he can waive the post count for your account since you have been a member for a few years now.

Thanks, hope you have a good new year. Best wishes.

Thanks again for getting back to me. I'm aware there are several ways around the policies that wasn't really the point.

I've learned a lot here over the years just never really felt that qualified to answer questions or the ones I could answer were already answered. That's the reason for such a low post count. I just never have liked to waste bandwidth or clutter up the threads.

I guess it just took me by surprise. Usually if you're account has been restricted there is a reason for it, I don't remember reading about any of the restrictions but may have missed it. I'm not sure what scripts the admins are using, but I have the censor option activated on my own forum (same software, phpBB3) and it doesn't mess with my signature. I can certainly understand the spam problem, but if you're going to invoke something like post count you should also consider us lurkers who've been problem free for years.

No need to ask for a waiver on my behalf although I appreciate the offer, if I need to post an address I can do it like I did last time. I may alter my signature line a little so it's more readable, but I think most will get the idea even if I don't.

Thanks again and have a great new year!
