AMEX CL decrease!!

Postby howardi » Fri Jun 29, 2007 8:03 am

Got slammed by AMEX Simply business CC fr 15K to 5k?

The reason: Computer error when CL was originally given. I am pissed but, it's not affecting my FICO bec they do not report to the bureaus.

Will drop them as soon as I pay off the 1k balance...Facting jerks.

Anyone with similiar experience.

No. Certainly no one before you has had a CLD from AmEx. I read this board often and have never ever heard of such thing before. Do you have any idea why you were singled out?

I have no idea except where I tend to shop. I know they are lying about computer glitch etc...Plus, I never lied about the amount of money I made per year..If they want a payment stub that would be no problem.

I live in the bronx...They have denied me credit increases bec of the demographics that I tend to shop!! What type of garbage is that?I only shop at local stores etc..

Drive up Boston Post Rd and do some shopping in my old neck of the woods.

Sorry, not funny. In essence, anyone who hits the LUV button and obtains a CLI can be surprised by a CLD because of a “computer error”. How nice and convenient for them.

There was a post on FW about someone getting a credit line reduced because the account was used very little, the guy just hit the LUV button and raised it back to $25K.

Not sure how the LUV button works for business cards.

Just curious…..

Does anyone know exactly what it means when the card company states “Our records show that you have not used your card for some time???

What is the time period for an inactive card?????

What is the time period before the credit bureau classifies the card inactive?????

I try to use my zero balance cards once every 2-3 months to what I thought was OK before I get to the inactive stage.

Sure hope this is not a trend to lower credit limits for inactive cards.

Inactivity is not determined by the CRA but rather the issuer. Each probably has their own criteria. I don't know the specifics.

If your worried about this just charge a loaf of bread or some gum every 30 or 60 days or so.

1 year + 1 day (guess)----TARGET gave MRS a -$9,000 CLD

2 years

3 years

Only THAT company knows

Use the card for the lawnmower gas can once or twice every 12 months

No problem. Simply call AMEX, ask for a credit supervisor, and make your case. You certainly deserve a limit which is commensurate with your income. If you merit a 15K limit, I'm sure that they'll accomodate.

Still smarting fr that previous post..Get over it.

I am not a credit risk to them...I have not missed a payment in 6-7 years on any of my cards...Plus, I get Pre-approved offers on a weekly basis...

So why did they gave me a Gold Card? To play with?

Case In Point:

NFCU just gave me a MC/Platinum with a 15K CL..

Congrats on getting your limit back, Howardi. Also, don't let Mouse suck you in with his self pity. You did the right thing in calling them to resolve the issue, rather than cutting up the cards and whining endlessly about it :)

I spoke to my In-law who is a the Director for the NE division of AMEX an
she told me some amazing insight into how Amex operates in terms of CC and CS..

Wallet Share
CSR monitoring etc
Spending Habits
Card User monitoring etc..It's all fed into a data base to fine tune their models etc..thus, it affects CLI or Decreases..

That's how I felt initially but, realised that decisions made emotionally are usually not good....in the long run.

I am very sorry to hear that he did that...He should have fought tooth and nail...

He would ahve gotten nuf support on this board for his fight. U have to play the game and beat them at it. It's just a game.

It's a nice place to shop but not there. Since you're across the street from the University it could be construed differently.

I was thinking of the other side going up Boston Post Rd. (Mt. Vernon, New Rochele, The Pelhams).

WOW. This whole thing is a mystery to me. You may live in the Bronx but that area was nice and rather upscale. I don't know how Coop City, City Island, etc. is now; but that was a nice place years ago. I grew up in Pelham Manor. I can't believe they would penalize you because of your zip code. Anyway, let us know when you get your $15K back.
