Contactless Credit Cards Coming to Home Depot

Credit card customers at nearly 2,000 Home Depot locations in the United States will soon enjoy the benefits of faster checkout using Discover's new Zip payment devices. Discover Card and its partner banks have already started issuing Zip devices in a number of innovative formats, including an adhesive strip that bonds with cell phones and other everyday objects. Zip's goal, according to one Discover spokesperson, is to eliminate hassles at the register by allowing cardholders to wave a phone or a keyring at a payment pad instead of requiring them to fumble for a wallet or remember a PIN.
Discover's Zip credit card product is the second contactless payment method to be announced by Home Depot this summer. In July, Home Depot officials revealed that the company would begin accepting payments using MasterCard's PayPass technology. Product managers for MasterCard commissioned a research study that found three out of four PayPass users prefer to use their contactless credit card as their primary form of payment at retail stores.
