I always carry 4 cards: Amex, 2 V and a Discover. My wife carries a MC. Luckily, it has never happened to us. Most of the time I use Amex. We do frequent restaurants that take only V or MC.

i always carry at least one $100 in cold cash with me ….you never know…

On the contrary I NEVER CARRY CASH. I have a debit card in case of emergency.
