Post subject: Want to Transfer American Express Green Card Rewards to New AmEx Blue Credit Card Account
Posted: Thu Jan 18, 2007 1:11 pm
Yeah, I know. I could just call AMEX and ask them but I'd rather trust your knowledge here before I do that. You guys are seriuosly into all things credit!
I have an AMEX Green Card. No matter how long (26 years) I've had it they won't waive the anuall fee......ever!
However I also have (currently) around 25,000 reward points coming to me.
I understand the AMEX Blue has no annual fee and no annual rewards fee! True? The Green's fees come to $90.00 a year.
Do you think that AMEX will cancel my Green and also roll those points at the same time to a brand new Blue card?
I have this feeling that most of you guys here are pros at this kind of stuff and you've all been there done that.
Lastly......do you think that one rep that you speak to on the phone makes a note to your account about what was said at the time of your call, so that the next rep can read what s/he said to you on previous calls?
Or do you think that each call to a credit rep is a brand new shot?

AMEX wil not roll those points as you will be getting a new card. But as you said....you could call them and ask (and also tell them that you have been a long standing customer). I will be happy for you if you can get them to do this.
Having this card for past 26 years show good history with them. But still got to pay the annual fee... some cards simply do not stop the annual fee don't they !?!
About whether acct reps make notes ....... I dont know. Anyone here worked as one before for a credit card company?

You could call up and ask to speak with their retention department and ask them if they could please waive the annual fee.
If you combind your green into a blue card, they may require accessing your credit report for the new account to be opened.
I don't know if they are willing to migrate the points though, sorry.

Amex Bue carries no annual fee and the rewards program also.
As for rolling over points from Green to Blue, don't know. I've never heard of it being done. Nevertheless, it doesn't hurt to request it whaen uou call.
I have never been to a banking telemarketing center. I have been to the American Airlines center in Dallas which is contracted by many companies. Last time I was I was there was over 10 years ago and even then it was very impressive. The vast majority of all customer contact is scripted.
In that particular center customer request are inputted. When I had my problem with Amex I could hear the CSR entering my information into the system. The next time I called, there it was. The chit chat obviously is not recorded, but I would believe that a specific request maybe.
