I have a Bank of America gold card which is due to expire in 3 months. Is it possible for me to request for an upgrade (card with reward points) instead of renewing the old gold card?
Thanks for the time

Check in some of the previous post’s. If not mistaken I have read that BOA is going to phase out the “gold card”, It would not surprise me when they send you the replacement card, if they upgrade you then.

If you should be eligible for a different card at this time, you would definitely also be approved for a 2nd card if you apply. That will have the advantage of likely possessing a larger limit than your current Gold card (that was my experience 2 years ago).
You’ll also have the option of transferring all or most of your existing Gold limit onto the new card for a total credit limit that’s relatively sizable. (If you do transfer your limit, you may wish to maintain at least a modest limit on the Gold card to keep it open and preserve that account age for the sake of your credit score.)
Note, you can check on their website to see if you have an “existing” offer. If it comes back negative, the website may suggest that - among other things - your credit may not be strong enough for an offer. Ignore that, it’s bogus.
If an offer wasn’t made, just apply for the new card of your choice from the new account menu. If you log into your account first, an abbreviated card application will appear after you select a card and click on “Apply”.
