Want an Increased Credit Line on my New AmEx Credit Card Credit Account

You're a new customer of AmEx--and you say that the $8,000 credit limit it gave you means you're not "good enough" for AmEx?

You're taking things much too personally. The CSR you spoke with obviously isn't one of the credit analysts who make such decisions, so what the CSR said is meaningless. Wait for the letter.

You weren't turned down for credit. You just didn't get the limit you expected. There's a BIG difference. In November I applied for a pre-approved Advanta business card with a credit limit "up to" $35,000. I got the card. The limit was $2,500. Not much good to me. But why should I be angry? Nothing wrong with the card. Nice cash rewards. 0% BT feature. No fee. I'll keep it and use it now and then. Eventually, the CL will go up to something more useful for me. No big deal.

I think the starting CL is pretty good. I would spend a bunch on it and pay in full at the end of the month and then see if the CLI button will give you love through the amex website. If not try again with a rep. A majority of them are easy to deal with and love to keep you happy. Amex is one of the best companies to give CLI earily on in my experience. Good luck with what you are looking for.

You may pay your credit cards in full, but your balance won't show as zero most likely if you use those cards.

The card companies report to the agencies regularly with your "current" balance. So if you've got a $10,000 limit, and you've spent $5,000 into the cycle, even if you pay the balance off at the end of the month it could show $5K depending on when they report it.

That's why many recommend to not use your credit cards for a few months before applying for a mortgage if you're at a borderline credit threshold.

Started out with a 2k Amex Delta, 6 months later I am at 25k.

Amex isn't trying to personally insult you, they don't know you from Adam...
