Ok... so NOW I find out another problem with AMEX. I bought groceries, and I went to pay with my Blue Cash card, since it specifically offers 5% back at grocery stores, and my local market (Winn Dixie) said that all American Express cards require voice authorization there! That is ridiculous and so inconvenient. I ended up just using debit.
Citi AmEx will be no different
Oh and not to mention that the website for your account is USELESS... It does not show any recent transactions or temp authorizations or anything. It shows that the "available credit" is reduced, but then it says "no activity" under recent transactions... blah.
Citibank isn't going to show you this either.

Seems like your mind is made up about AmEx...

ok, well I had a much better talk with Amex recently.

I called up to see what was the issue with the grocery store not taking the card, and they told me that the fraud center just wanted to verify my info. So I talked to one of the reps and she said they couldn't verify my home phone number, because it was a cell. She said they could verify my work phone though and that they just wanted to call me back on that line to make sure it was me. Once they did that, everything was fine and she told me how sorry they were for the inconvenience.

So I told her I really didn't care because I was just going to cancel this card since I would not be using it enough, and certainly not enough to get over the $6500 needed to earn 5%, so the card was not going to work for me. She immediately told me they really valued my business and did not want to lose me as a customer. She said they have several different cards and she would be happy to upgrade my Blue Cash to any other card that would suit my needs better.

I thought this was very friendly, and good customer service. So I ended up switching over to the Clear Card. It seemed like the least hassle card, with no fees, and nothing that I have to worry about points with. They will just automatically send you a cash card when you spend $2500. So I am definately going to give Amex another shot. I guess it really does matter which CSR picks up the phone when you call... makes a big difference in how the company is represented.
You may pay your credit cards in full, but your balance won't show as zero most likely if you use those cards.

The card companies report to the agencies regularly with your "current" balance. So if you've got a $10,000 limit, and you've spent $5,000 into the cycle, even if you pay the balance off at the end of the month it could show $5K depending on when they report it.

That's why many recommend to not use your credit cards for a few months before applying for a mortgage if you're at a borderline credit threshold.
IT WILL SHOW A ZERO BALANCE ON YOUR CREDIT REPORT, IF ONLY YOU PIF 3 DAYS BEFORE THE BILLING CYCLE ENDS. WHEN THE BILLING CYCLE CLOSES, THE ACCOUNT WILL BE A ZERO, SINCE YOU PAID IT BEFORE IT CLOSED

PIF before the statement "MAY" or "MAY NOT" result in $0 balance being reported to the CRA's

It can report any time during the month

FOR A FACT CAPITAL ONE HAS REPORTED 5 TIMES THIS MONTH

I MADE 5 DIFFERENT PAYMENTS

(large ones over $500 and they have updated for each one)

DON'T BET A MORTGAGE COMPANY WON'T FIND OUT "IF" YOU PIF BEFORE THE STATEMENT DATE

Amex reports a month behind so it'd take at least 1 month to report a 0 balance.
