Here's an interesting example of what happens even within the same banking organization. About two months ago I applied for a new Citibank credit card because CardRatings was offering a $25.00 bonus just for applying. I was approved - with a "huge" limit of $500.00. I called to complain and was told that's as high as they could go considering my credit history. Huh? My history is impeccable. I have three other CitiBank cards and I pay in full every month. The CSR wouldn't budge. I almost cancelled the card, but I try never to make emotional decisions and held my tongue.
Two weeks later I applied for another CitiBank card which had a 0% no fee balance transfer offer for a year. I was instantly approved for $6,000.00!! Huh? Nothing changed in the ensuing two weeks. All I could do was say "Thank you!"
So I quote the immortal Casey Stengel, first Manager of the New York Mets who asked during the first year of their existence, when they proceeded to lose 120 games, "Does anybody here really know how to play this game?"

Yes. Don't rationalize, it's cluster funk.
Try Target Visa, they'll give Bill Gates a $10 limit.

Wow! Your story sounds typical. I recently applied for an HSBC card (0% APR for 12 months) and was only offered an Orchard Card with a $59 annual fee. I have a 750 credit score with a 15+ yr. perfect credit history. So, you're not alone my friend!
