Spring is on the way.

Editor's Note: Thank you for your interest, these seasonal offers have expired and are no longer available.

After a long, cooped-up winter it is time to get out. There are home improvement projects to tackle, graduation gifts to buy, weddings to plan, a garden to plant, a lawn to mow and plenty of cash back credit card offers to take advantage of.

Getting some extra rewards from your cash back rewards cards now will help make your upcoming summer even more enjoyable.

Here are some ways to make the most of this spring's 5-percent cash-back categories from major credit card issuers.

If you haven't done so already, make sure to register ahead of time for these quarterly promotions before you start charging. Otherwise, you'll be earning 1 percent cash-back rewards instead of 5 percent.

Eating out

Chase Freedom® offers you 5 percent cash back, between April 1 and June 30, 2014 when you use the card at restaurants or when shopping at Lowe's home improvement stores, for up to $1,500 in combined purchases. You will need to enroll and activate this bonus category to begin earning at the 5 percent rate. Wondering how to get the most out of these bonus categories? The 5 percent categories change every quarter so be sure to enroll each quarter and earnings are subject to a quarterly cap on combined purchases.

  • Whether your son or daughter is saying goodbye to high school, college or kindergarten, dinner at the graduate's favorite restaurant is a great way to celebrate this milestone.
  • Wedding season is here. Consider taking the exhausted wedding party out to dinner the day after the wedding or offering to pay for the rehearsal dinner as a gift to the bride and groom.
  • Want to eat out on your patio and host cookouts and barbeques all summer long? Why not earn 5 percent cash back on an outdoor grill, barbeque supplies and patio furniture?

It's also worth noting there is no annual fee with the Chase Freedom card.
