Credit Card News: United Mileage Plus Visa Credit Card Offering Double Miles for School Expenses, Including Tuition and Room and Board

Posted On: September 1, 2005

Through December 31, 2005, United Mileage Plus Visa credit card is now offering double miles on qualified school expenses paid to schools. &nbsp&nbsp Public schools, private schools, elementary and secondary schools, college (including junior colleges) and universities are eligible for this limited time offer.&nbsp&nbsp Cardholders will earn double miles on every dollar that they spend above $1,000 (double miles will not be earned until the $1,000 minimum threshold is met).&nbsp&nbsp Some of the school expenses included in this offer are:

  • Tuition
  • School Bookstore Purchases
  • Sports Season Tickets
  • Room and Board
  • School Donations
  • School Events

There are a few restrictions worth noting.&nbsp&nbsp Certain products or services associated with school expenses may not be offered directly by a school and will not be eligible for bonus miles.&nbsp&nbsp For example, if a school bookstore is managed independently of the school, then no bonus miles will be earned on purchases at that bookstore.&nbsp&nbsp Finally, the maximum miles that can be earned during this promotional period is 60,000 miles.
