Post subject: Cardmember Agreement Translation

Hello all! I recently enrolled in a 0 % BankOne Platinum Visa card. I did this because I am planning on financing part of a major purchase. I am being very careful about this and while reading through the cardmember agreement I came upon the "Minimum Payment" section and a sentence jumped out at me: "If the New Balance is $10 or less, your min pmt due will be the New Balance. Otherwise, it will be any amount past due; plus the greater of $10 and 2% of the New Balance." The second sentence - does that mean that if I was to make a payment the first month after the purchase (not full payment), will the next billing cycle require the full balance amount remaining to be paid? For example, I make a $2,000 purchase, pay $500 the first month. Will the next month min pmt be $1,500? Basically throwing out the zero % if I dont pay that amount?

Thank you,

David

Visa Credit Card Rewards

If you have both a Visa and a Mastercard, and the Visa rewards require you to accumulate points (2500) before getting a reward (like 1% cash back) and the Mastercard is instant pay (on your next statement, like Chase Perfectcard), is there any reason to carry both, or can you safely "sockdrawer" the Visa and use it a couple of times a year to keep the tradeline open? Is there something Visa will do for you that MC won't? Both credit lines are high ($14,500 Visa and $13,000 Mastercard). Or do you need to carry both?

Just received a Great offer from American Express Blue Card. Offer is as follows; It was a Direct Mail offer.. 0% Balance Transfer for 12 months.. No Balance Transfer fee with offer.. Purchase rate is 7.9.. I am not going to apply for this , but If anyone else did get this offer.. There are a couple of negative points in regards to this offer if it is not used correctly.. 1. Grace Period is only 20 days.... 2. If you do not pay off your Original Balance transfer Balance with in the 12 month Promotional period, the balance that is left will go to The rate of 17.99, not the usual purchase rate of 7.9...///3. if you Miss the due date of a payment.. Your account becomes over the limit, returned checks, ect , your APR can go as high as 23.99%.. 4. also as is the case with most Balance Transfer offers, your payments will go to the Balance transfer balance first , and any purchases are made with card, your purchase balance will continue to accrue interest each month until the balance transfer rate is paid.. If you are able to pay the Balance transfer off within the 12 months it is a great offer... Has anyone on the board received this offer and is now presently using it?

Credit Reporting Agency Problem

I started my fight in 2000, a group called Gulf State Credit LLC claimed that I owed 123$ to SPRINT PCS in Augusta, Ga. I had paid that bill by check and had received that check back from bank with my monthly statement as finalized. Equifax, Experian, Transunion, and CSC carried this on their credit reports. When I disputed it, Equifax and CSC immediately responded and deleted it. No response of any kind from Experian or Transunion. Amazingly Gulf State Credit LLC transferred my account to a company called OSI. No response was received when I disputed it with this company. Now, Sherman Acquisitions has this supposed account and has added an additional 33$ for who knows what reason. They now claim I owe 156$. On my 3rd dispute, I told transunion that I would be seeking legal representation if I received no response this time. Wow, Transunion responded and deleted the account. After only 3 years and 3 seperate companies. BUT, now why does Experian continue to carry this account when the other CRA's have deleted it. A response was received but only stated that the account would remain. No explanation of verification given. Upon calling Experian, I was told that Sherman Acquisitions had been contacted and that the account was still open. We all know by now how hard it is to contact Sherman. So why did the other 3 CRA's delete the account. In my opinion, there are some sleazeball companies out there that DO need to be held accountable, but financial institutes do not contact them when people make applications. Financial institutions contact CRA's. It is the CRA's that are slandering our names and defaming our character on the word of possible sleazes. Why are they not being held accountable also. What happened to innocent until proven guilty? As long as I am willing to pay the CRA, I can screw up my nieghbors record and he will have to prove he is not guilty. I not only want Sherman's butt now, but also Experian's. Do I have a legal case against them and if so what is the best way to start?

How many credit cards should I carry?

I was going through my wallet yesterday, and noticed that I carry some cards, like Visa, which I use infrequently (once or twice a year). I was wondering how many people carry cards around they don't use regularly. Is this dangerous? Should these cards be left at home? I know Visa and MasterCard have "zero liability" policies. Should this make a person feel more comfortable carrying around "non-essential" (on an everyday use basis) cards, or should these cards be left at home anyhow? What do other people do? Just curious.

Credit Report Disputes

Greetings Night Star, It's Health Nut. I hope your New Year has gotten off to a good start. My New Year has been ok. My question Nightstar is about my credit report again. I have gotten my Equifax report back after disputing everything, and I am wondering what I should do next? I disputed all of my liens and they all came back as being paid or released is what the report states even though they are not. Should I continue to dispute and risk the release being taken off or just leave it at this? Next, I disputed two of my old cc on credit highs I think, but these came back showing no credit high or limit. How much is this hurting me? Should I continue disputing until these fall off? My Equifax score is 660 and showing that I have no open cc, although I do have Capitol One and Zales. I have been trying to get Capitol One to add my credit limit, but it has not worked. Well, I don't want to put to much on you at once, so I will let you anwser this first. Thank You again Nightstar! Talk to you soon!

MBNA mailed another offer with an APR of 5.9% for the same credit card I received about 6 months ago (APR 7.9%)! I guess MBNA doesn't screen for current card holders!
