These people should be arrested! My husband is starting his own business and we started to suffer a little financially so we did the responsible thing by hiring a debt management company to handle our accounts. Providian won't accept the agreement! I can't believe what jerks they are. My account has been closed for several years due to the outrageous interest rate hike. I tried to pay them off once before but they wouldn't waive any of the outlandish interest. If you don't have this card don't get it, if you currently have it, get rid of it, NOW!

Best Backup Credit Card to Use Along With American Express?

Post subject: Which is Better Backup to AMEX CashbacK?

I have AMEX cashback, Chase Perfectcard, and Bank One Free Cash Rewards. I use AMEX cashback first, and usually hit the maximum tiers (3% for gas, groceries, drugstores, etc. and 1.5% everywhere else) quite quickly. Infact, my new rebate year started 9-1 and I am already there. I have been using the Chase Perfectcard as a backup to AMEX, plus for all gas (to get the 3%). It pays 3% on all gas and 1% everywhere else, and is credited on the next month's statement. I also have a Free Cash Rewards Platinum Visa from Bank One that pays 1 point for every dollar you charge. When you reach $2500 you can claim a gift certificate or $25 cash (I always prefer cash). This works out to a straight 1% card. I also have all of my banking business at Bank One. Since I hit the 3% on gas pretty quickly with AMEX (which also pays annually as a credit to your balance) and all gas stations take AMEX, is there ANY redeeming quality that the Bank One card has (over the Chase Perfectcard) which would make it more attractive as a #2 card behind AMEX? I could find none. I just want to make certain the order in which I am using these cards is the best order possible.

Credit Card Companies Closing

Dear Webmaster,

FCNB Closed for good in Feb or March of 2003. It would be helpful to post this under FCNB, Eddie Bauer, and the other one I can't remember to let all persons viewing your site that this is what happened to them.

Got a postcard, actually two, one for Visa and One for MasterCard to stop using the card as of a date listed. For the first month or two, you could get someone on the phone. They closed the bank!!! Was able to get info from Bank Officer that they were closed because of too many outstand bad debts and the parent bank (holding company) just pull the plug and that is that. Holding company is now dismantling bank assets and liabilities. I think that they are forwarding mail and just post it when they have time. Hate to say it, but it is probably legal. That is why everyone is getting late fees on accounts that were mailed last month (last cycle).

Interesting note; Citibank besieged me with card offers after the FCNB closing. I quit counting at 10.

Also Direct Merchants Bank is in trouble. "Metris" is taking their phone calls. I have read something on the web that this new company is restructuring and is trying to make the bank profitable. Don't know if they will stay the distance or not. In any case it would be great for someone to place some sort of post whenever a viewer looks at FCNB to explain what has happened to the Bank. This would be a great feature for this board.

Another great feature to have would to post the recent information of the policies of some of the larger Banks that are lowering credit limits if your FICA score drops below a certain point. I have heard that one line is 649 and another 679. This is only for higher limit Gold and Platinum cards. They drop lines from tens of thousands to a thousand or two. No mater how good of a customer is involved. This, in turn caused FICA scores to be lowered even further, due to the scoring methods based on outstanding balance to available credit ratios. Citibank and Chase seem to be doing this, possibly others.

I, and I'm sure a number of people, appreciate having a board like this one to look at and review credit card issuers before applying for credit. Thank you for your time and consideration.

Providian Credit Card Interest Hikes

I just got my replacement card from Providian today. I'm franky surprised they didn't just cancel my account since I was one of the ones who had their interest rate jacked from astronomical levels to etherical levels. Anyway, the notice I got said that the smart chip technology didn't catch on with merchants as Providian thought it would, so they dropped it altogether. Kind of sad, really. I thought it made the card look rather cute. But my card is still transparent, and that usually gets an "Oh, WOW! A see-through credit card!" from the cashiers.
