Credit Card Reward Points of 5% or Less

Post subject: What is the point of having a rewards for less than 5%?
As far as I know the only two cards that offer a flat permanent 5% on gas, groceries, and drug stores are the citi bank diamond and the chase cash plus. I just found out recently though that my chase card gives the full 5% on everything at the WalMart super center so what is the point of all those other office, pet home, and whatever supply store rewards that offer two or three percent? Why do they get any business at all? I can understand the resturant and airline cash back cards but pretty much everything else you will ever need in life is right there in Walmart.

There's no Wal-Mart Supercenter anywhere near where I live. And I often buy things that no Wal-Mart would carry.
I'm glad Wal-Mart serves all your needs. Doesn't work for me!

Not only this, even if there is a Walmart, there are many things we get at Costco at a much better price. Costco only takes Amex.

No Costco here. I also use Chase almost exclusively because of their 5% cash-back, Walmart Supercenter included. I never really got into using Citi's, even when they were 5% cashback because I spent a lot of cash @ Walmart and got the 5% each time. So in my case, no, I don't see the point of other rewards cards, either. With the bulk of my purchases being from one source, I'd have to wait too long to acrue a sizeable / redeemable amount on a lot of other cards. Except.. um.. Discover. When they come up with a 5% more cashback category that I'm spending tons on, anyway, things tend to rack up pretty quickly. I'm sure people have a similar story for other rewards cards they carry.

Speaking for yourself, Ri, but not for me . I try to stay as far away as possible from WalMart. However, for non-discriminating folks and those who are into "tacky", I'm sure that it's a real beehive .....
I'm happy with my 5% on EDP with AMEX Blue.
