Hi I was wondering if anyone else has had these problems. My husband and i both had Providian accounts and then he was laid off from work we both entered into payment plans with them and then they sold the accounts to Card services. My payment plan had been in effect long enough for it to carry over his they said they could not honor. They now call us ALL the time. For instance I made a payment on 8/21 on both accounts and they still called us on saturday 8/23 after spending more than enough time getting transferred to finally get a manager--I was told they would take my number out of the dialer--Lo and behold they called again that afternoon. By law they cannot contact you for 7 days after speaking with them and i have threatened them with contacting the attorney general serveral times. everytime I make this threat they ease up and then we go through this all over again--any suggestions??

I would just make the complaints. If you say you are going to do that, and they contiue to do it, then file away. Not sure if FTC wants to hear it, but would do that too. Also bbb and planetfeedback.com.

Here is the providian sucks fourm, add your story:

These people are the biggest jerks ever to walk the face of the earth. I offered to pay them off awhile back if they would just waive a LITTLE bit of the 30% interest, they wouldn't do it. My goal is to pay them off and tell everyone I know never to deal with them!

Let me start by saying I have had my Providian Card since 1994. Back in May of 2003 I broke my neck, I was out of work until Jan. 5, of this year. I continued to pay my account every month although it was slow. I spoke to them on several occassions explaining why my payments were late, it did not matter to them. My payment was due on the 19th of each month, they began calling me on the 21st. Everyday!!!!!!! My husband finally told them not to ever call him again and cursed them out. This account is in my name only not his and they were discussing my personal info with him. This is against the law. Right?

It is not for original creditors you are talking about the rules that bind the collection agnecies - unfortunately. You may still file a complaint against them, and send in a dispute letter to the head of the company. Sometimes original creditors can be put in their place.

www.ftc.gov
Also you can check with your Attorney General and the regulating company for this creditor - file a complaint with them as well.

Some original creditors are just ruthless with abusing consumers, and some collection agnecies try to come off the same way as well.
