I have a bankruptcy on my credit report dated 1/95. Although it has been discharged, I am aware that it will be on my report until 1/05. My question is -- does this come off automatically? or do I have to anything to make sure that happens?
Thanks for your assistance.

I should come off automatically with no further effort on your part. It is just once in a blue moon that something like this would not.
If it does come to that all you have to do is write in to each respective reporting agency to dispute that the reporting period has expired on public record bankruptcy listing and give the docket number.
They have 30 days to investigate and forward you results, but I don't expect that you will have to resort to this.

Thank you very much for your response. Another thought...since this is on my credit report, I haven't been able to obtain any decent balance transfer rates. Should I not even bother to try until this is completely off my report?

You can always move sooner, and try to dispute this off of the credit reprot.
Make sure first that all of your personal information (names & addresses) are updated. If there are incorrect spellings of you name, dispute to have them removed. If there are prior addresses, dispute that they are incorrect and need to be removed. Important that you don't tell them they were prior addresses, just that they are incorrect.
Once this is updated, then dispute the bankruptcy listing as not being yours, see if it can be deleted off of the credit report.
Now if this is a very old listing, you might not see any score improvement once it is gone, but it should help on quick loan approvals.
Also if you do apply for a loan and the applications specifically asks if you had filed bankruptcy, then you have to legally disclose to the creditor that you have
