Credit Card and Mortgage Inquiries on Credit Reports

Hi. I am a 21 year old who has established a strong credit history. I have one issue I would like to ask advice on. I recently applied for a credit card (citibank) and was told I was declined because I had too many inquries in the past six months. When I pulled my credit report up I kept seeing inquiries for Chase Mortgage. They do not stipulate that it is a periodic review. Let me back track here. Since I was 18 I was having inquries from Chase Mortgage every month on my credit report showing up as a periodic review. When I called chase and asked them about this they said it could be how the system works because I have the same name as my father. I don't have a mortgage but my father does with this institution. I tried to get this issue resolved years ago by fighting with Chase to have them stop pulling up my credit report (even though other creditors couldnt see it) Now, they are not coming up as a periodic review, they are available for any creditor to see and they have been pulling up my credit report every month. The credit bureau told me I have to contact the bank. Chase doesn't know how to correct the problem and no matter what I do they can't stop it. Any ideas?

My guess is that you have a mixed file, meaning that it is at the CRAs end, the creditor may be contributing, but suggest trying this first.

Look over all of the personal information on your credit report... incorrect name spellings. Get the CRAs updated to only report your full given name, not any nick names or such, you need to get in the habit of only applying for credit or ordering credit reports using your full given name at all times.

Also if you are no longer living at home, or sharing the same address which your father uses, then dispute the address with the CRAs - just tell them it is not correct. Don't let them tell you it has to remain because you use to live there, because in your case this is not acceptable, it needs to be removed so that the relationship to your father's file can be severed.

Send the CRAs a copy of your drivers license, if you full name is not updated on the drivers license, then first go to the DMV and get this updated and a new copy, should not cost more then $4 to $10 to get this accomplished.

Also in your dispute tell them that you suspect that your credit file is mixed with your fathers and that you want all of the inquiries which you know not to belong to you to be removed from your credit report. Also be sure to note any credit accounts too that show up which you know does not belong to you.

Mixed files are a serious problem, and you may be faced with this problem creeping up ever so often to be re-fixed. Also in this dispute, tell the CRA that you want Citi Bank to recieve an updated copy of your credit report being that they declined you due to this incorrect inforamtion that is showing up.

Then you may try to use www.planetfeedback.com to contact Citi Bank and ask them to reconsider being that you credit file was mixed with your fathers, and they had declined you on incorrect information.

If you can, have your father check his credit report to insure it is not mixed on his side as well, and stress to him the importance of using his full given name, to update all of both your creditors as to how your name should be spelled. This will help further to protect the files from being re-mixed down the line.

Best of wishes with this matter,

I checked everything on my report and my father's report. I always use my full name with the suffix, he does not. Equifax told me that they cannot do anything further in this matter. Chase also told me today that for now, those periodic reviews of my father's mortgage are viewable to everyone who pulls up my credit report (which is unusual) and they cannot stop it because they do not know how. But I will dispute my address. My father's accounts are listed on his credit report, and mine are listed on my report. The onyl problem is the inquiries.

You need to talk to your father about him updating his creditor with his full given name and the Credit Reporting Agnecy, it might be on his side that the fix needs to be made.

Another thing is that Chase has the ability to fix how they are pulling the credit reports, if they don't know how, then you may mention to them that it would be in their best interest to contact the credit reporting agency or the credit bureau (reseller) which set them up with pulling credit reports.

They can tell them exactly how to change the software coding to tag the reports correctly that they are pulling. It is on their side, and they need to learn how to fix this.

Unauthorized inquiries that remain on your credit report are a violation of Federal law. You can make any CRA that has unauthorized inquiries on your report remove them fairly quickly. Please contact us for more information at www.creditsolutionsltd.com
