Post subject: Merchant code?
Hi Folks,
I read in the "terms and conditions" section for the Discover Platinum Gas Card something about the merchant code has to be 5541 or 5542. What is this? And how do I know the merchant is using this code?
Thanks in advance.

That code designates the type of purchase. This is sometimes a problem if the merchant isn't using the correct code. You could end up not getting the rewards. You could try asking the merchant, or just do a test transaction and see how it processes.
Here some info on merchant codes;

I would think that most employees have no clue about merchant codes. Managers might, though. I think it's best just to try and see as multiplierx states.
