Credit Tips: Does American Express Pull a Hard or Soft Inquiry

Post subject: Amex Invitation

I recently received an invitation in the mail from Amex for the Rewards Plus Gold card (a “standard of recognition” for being a valued card member). In reviewing the invitation, I have noticed that the usual “this is contigent upon reviewing your credit info” statement that is always included on credit offers is absent. Can anyone tell me if Amex does hard inquiries in connection w/this type of invitation?

Yep, AmEx always pulls a hard.
