I have the HSBC Platnium and the GM platinum, both are HSBC. I only had the HSBC for 6 months when the increased the limit on their own, even when I had a 5k limit and only 800 left on the card. I was given the card that has Zero percent for a year on transfers. My Gm card has a 14k limit with a zero balance. For no reason, they increased the limit by 2k , go figure.

I have both of those cards too.
The HSBC Platinum was one I applied for and received at the end of November. $5,000 CL, 0% BT for a year. I used almost half of that limit for a BT. It's been over 8 months now--no CLI for me.
I've had the GM card for a decade. A couple of years ago, its credit limit was REDUCED from $11,500 to $7305. (I owed about $7000 on a BT at the time.) It has never budged since then. I've requested a CLI twice since then and have been turned down both times. I also have a zero balance on it--and have had a zero balance for five months now, after paying off a 1.99% no fee BT. I'm waiting for another good deal...
I have both a savings and a checking account with HSBC right now. The savings account has had over $35,000 in it since January. Still no CLI.
So what is HSBC's "policy" on CLIs? I don't know. Two examples don't tell us. Be slow to conclude anything about such matters based on your own experience
