There was one thing that has not been mentioned about gasoline credit cards. I do not know if he remembers that back in the 70's and 80's(in the so called oil shortage), most service stations refused to accept any credit card other than their own. It might be a good idea to have at least one gas credit card in case this happens again.

A GAS STATION (now days) PROBABLY IS OVER 75% CREDIT CARDS
"IF" they take VISA/MC/AMEX/DISCOVER and stop those so they can take "THEIR OWN" do you really think they will keep any of that 75%
I only use AMEX or VISA
I no longer have any "GAS CARDS" since VISA/MC was usable everywhere
So they take AMEX or VISA or they have no business from me...

Does anyone remember about 25 years ago, Sears only accepted the Sears card and the Discover ?
Then they got with the times and started taking other cards, I know that must have given them a lil more business.
I have one gas card myself, but I would never patronize any business (in this day and age) only taking their own card.

And even if all the gas stations decide one day to not accept Visa or Mastercard, and only accept their company card, I'll apply at that time.
However, if some stations drop Visa and M/C but not others, their prices would have to be pretty low (at least 5% less) to convice me, and probably others, e.g., mouse, to go to them rather than the convenience of the stations accepting Visa and M/C.
