Post subject: Recommendation on best airline card+
Does anyone have a recommendation for the best airline miles card for my situation?
Just dreaming... but... wouldn't it be nice for my family of five (from NY) to either go to Ireland or Hawaii? Oh... and all of us at the same time?
Obviously, I can earn free tickets fast if I charge a lot... so a card with a higher annual limit on miles/points earned (or no limit at all) would be best. But only one of the tickets will have my name on it, I think I want unlimited companion tickets too.
Suggestions, anyone?

Do you fly much now, or have many banked miles with any airline? If you do, you might want to stick with them. The standard is 1 mile/dollar, and maybe double miles for special purchases (like tickets from that airline)
If you don't have an existing frequent flyer relationship, but you spend a lot on the card in general, look to get a card that can convert regular spending into plane flights at a rate better than 1 point/mile. Citi Diamond Preferred Rewards and Simplicity cards get you 5 points/dollar on gas/groceries (first year only), their Professional Card gets you 3pts/$ on restaurants and auto rentals. Capital One can get you 2 miles/$ if you pay an annual fee (their redemption rate might be more expensive for expensive flights). Amex Blue Sky lets you switch points for travel discounts at a 1.33/1 rate.
Finally, if you give up and just want to buy 5 tickets to somewhere far away, consider a card that will get you beacoup points/miles for that purchase. You could get one for the airline you intend to fly on, or get something like the Citi PremierPass card which gets you bonus points for each mile of the flight.
