What do you all think of the Discover Card with the 5% Get more rewards? Is it worth getting?
The only thing I don't like is that you don't know what the categories are until they announce them...it may be something great, or totally not useful.

dont like it. I would rather have the home improvement and restaurant card programs back. If they have the online purchase thing this x-mas again, that would be ok....

I kind of like it, but sometimes, especially after they haven't had a good one for a while, you kind of lose track of their latest get-more category. For instance, until June 30th they're giving 5% cash back on gas and automotive purchases. I didn't know about this before spending about $60 at Advance Auto and so I used my Chase card, getting only 1% back.
It's probably having at least one Discover card (probably one that already gives a decent amt of cashback in another category year-round, like maddybeagle mentioned), just so you can take advantage of those categories whenever they're announced.

Personally, I like it because it gives me another option as far as maximizing cashback from different purchases. Many complain about the Get More categories and being similar to what they have already but the categories are not exactly the same. Take for example the current category, Gas & Automotive purchases. Yes it overlaps all of our "Everyday Purchase" cards but you also get 5% @ Firestone, car washes, Autozone, Midas, Pep Boys and Sears Auto Center. The previous quarter the category was Health & Wellness which included Drug Store purchases (also covered by "Everyday Purchase" cards) but they gave 5% back at Doctor & Dental visits as well as purchases at places not covered by the "Everyday Cards". I heard that the next two promotions will be apparel, supplies and education expenses for July-September & holiday shopping items such as music and books for October-December. Another thing I like about my Discvoer is it is the only card accepted at Sam's Club so I don't have to write out a check or pay cash. I don't really get much from cashback at Sam's but it's more convenient then bringing my checkbook or carrying cash. Hope this helps.
