Credit Card To Pay for Overseas Trip

Post subject: Card recommendation please?

Hello, I'm new and I wonder if someone could point me in a general direction here. I am looking for a credit card to use for an overseas trip this year.

- I have good credit but not the best and building credit is not very important to me at this point.

- I will need around $3000 USD for my trip so would like at least that as credit limit though I do have some money saved away for the trip as well.

- I will need to pay off this trip over time as in over the course of this year and quite possibly into next year.

- I will not be using the card again until this trip is paid.

What do you think should be my primary focus on this search for a credit card...lower interest rate or some sort of incentives or what? I'm not very knowledgable about credit cards as I've only had a couple of retail cards in the past and one card which I still have but am currently paying off.

I'd look for a card that offers 0% interest for 12-15 months on purchases.
That would allow you to enjoy your trip without paying interest on it for at least an entire year.

I'd give "american express BLUE" a shot if your credit is good. They usually start you off with a generous credit limit, and you can always ask them for an increase if your limit is not to your liking.

You may also want to look at Capital One, since they do not charge currency conversion fees... although I'm not sure whether they have any 0% offers on purchases like Qikpass mentioned above.

My Cap 1 card came with 0% until Sept 06.

Although not favorable on the exchange rate at times, Citibank is the card of choice if you are going to Asia. There are like on every other corner in the major cities (Seoul, HK, Taiwan, etc)
Also with a global ATM that speaks English, this is a godsend.

If you are going to Europe, especially western Europe(London, Paris)
then AMEX is best as they have a good network in these cities.

Either way , Visa/Mastercard rules overseas.

Good Luck and take Care
