Credit Card Offers for Older College Students

Post subject: Question About Older People Getting Student Cards

I am 27 and haven't been to college in 4 years since I finished my Master's Degree. However, I am considering going back to school so I can get certified to teach in the public schools here. Since I will officially be a student, I was looking into getting the MTVu card, which offers the best cash back rate on restaurants available now that the Discover Restaurant card is discontinued. Plus, the MTVu card gives bonuses based on good grades. Just so you know I havent watched MTV for years and could care less about the MTV image, but 5% is 5%!

My question is this: Will my credit rating or standing with the credit card companies change because I will have a student card? Will Citi and other companies now view me as more of a risk simply because I have a student card? I would like 5% back, but I dont want my credit to suffer.

Any credit card account shows in your credit history as a revolving account, student card or not. Nobody can tell from your credit history what kind of product a specific credit card account is. What you should worry about more is the credit line granted to your student card since that's what'll be shown in your credit report, and student cards usually get lower credit lines than the regular ones. But as long as you keep your utilization low you should be safe.

There was something about a limit, like 10,000. if you go over it , then they wont give you the card. But, im not sure if that counts for only citi bank cards only, or all your cards. They will approve you if your 10,000 and under in your citi bank cards. It wont affect your credit score, but the interest is high after the promo period so thats not that good. Mines is 31.4% after the 6 month 0% promo
